"Our guys think our bench could be good but they want to make sure, so there's a lot of help on the floor. Every year you try to build the bench. And some years we've been successful and some years we haven't. Last year, we failed miserably - me and everyone. The bench didn't save us - ever. They lost some for us.

"This bench, one thing I do like, they're not going to back up. They may not play well, but they're a tough group. They respect the starters, that's about it, that's all they're getting.

"It's always a problem, role players understanding they are role players. We've got a group of guys who clearly know who they are and they are also very comfortable with that. They think they can play as well as the starters but they accept where they're at.''

Blown out by the team that we swept in the first round of last year's playoffs 4-0?

Yes, the knicks added Tyson Chandler, but they lost chauncey billups (bibby = meaningless, baron davis = meaningless and out for 8 weeks)

The celtics lost big baby, but they added brandon bass, a healthy Marquis, a healthy JO, and Wilcox

Tyson chandler is really that good? Really??

I agree a loss is possible. Mainly on intangibles.

The Knicks will be super jacked up. It’s in their house. Psychologically they think they are improved more than they probably really are. And as you point out, we will be missing our Captain. And nobody on our team seems better psychologically suited for success in MSG than Pierce. Without him on the floor, it’s going to be very tough.

But even if we lose this one game, in the long haul, I just don’t see the Knicks as having caught up with the C’s.

I think if this game were played in TDG, I’d be surprised if we didn’t blow them out.

Everyone looks good on paper

…till we start playing. The NY frontcourt can’t score if there’s no pg to pass them the ball. We can’t be worried about tony douglas (or their coach).

a) won’t get any real value in return since KG becomes a FA this summer
b) KG makes ~$20M an i doubt any contender out there can absorb even part of that contract

Is anybody else surprised by how vehemently Doc is throwing last year’s bench mob under the bus? Is he just using this as motivation for the new group?

I don't know... I just remember thinking last year that our bench was going to be stacked... and then realizing after injuries that it was paper thin

it’s hard to predict how a bench is going to function, and it’s funny how a cohesive bench team that knows its role can outperform a number of more talented individual bench players who don’t know their role. That’s how I interpret Doc’s comments… more about praising the chemistry and attitude on the bench this year as opposed to last year (Delonte, Von and BBD were tough to deal with, I gather)
