The Replacements
With Jeff Green being such a pivotal piece to the Celtics championship run, he’s going to be tough to replace. It’s not easy to find a 6’9 player that can play the 3 and 4 spots with high athleticism. He was the only Celtic able to keep up with Rondo on fast breaks and finish with ease.
There are no free agents that fit the mold to replace Jeff Green’s slot on the Celtics roster. If they use his voided $9M contract, they will be likely sign a backup shooting guard. There will need to be a team effort to cover up the blank spot in the roster.
Marquis Daniels will need to step up and show his true colors. He has shown glimpses of aggressiveness on both ends of the court during preseason. In prior seasons, Daniels has shown lots of hesitation when it came to shooting open jump-shots which many people believed to be his downfall. Since he does not have to worry about an injured wrist or neck this season, many believe this is going to be his bounce-back season in the NBA.
Brandon Bass is a key pickup for the Celtics. He is the replacement of Glen “Big Baby” Davis. Bass is a much more mature player on and off the court. He will bring more power, speed, rebounding, shooting, and toughness to the lineup. If he is able to play well, this will be a huge physical relief on power forward Kevin Garnett. It is ideal that Kevin gets as many minutes of rest as possible to be ready for a strong playoff push.
Sasha Pavlovic , Chris Wilcox, and rookie Jajuan Johnson will also be called upon for some positive contribution. They will need to play their roll when called upon and be aggressive on defense
It will certainly be a tough task to replace Jeff Green’s talents, but if the Celtics can manage to gel and play well as a cohesive unit, they have an opportunity to be just as strong.
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.
