The Grinch Steals Christmas, Celtics Fall Short
The Celtics rallied all the way back in the 2nd half but couldn't hold off the Knicks as Kevin Garnett's buzzer shot was off.
- C's offense got off to a slow start (lockout rust?) but hit their stride in the 3rd.
- I guess Rondo shook off those trade rumors. 31 points, 13 assists, and a few jumpers that looked good. Then again, he always does well against the Knicks.
- Celtics really missed Paul Pierce at the end - not to mention early on when they needed someone who could generate their own offense.
- How about Brandon Bass? 20 points and 11 rebounds in his debut and he worked very well with Rajon.
- Another solid defensive performance from Jermaine O'Neal. Stay healthy big man, we'll need you.
- A big 37 points from Melo and 21 for Amare was what carried the day for the Knicks.

And look for kg to get suspended ALREADY for what he did after the buzzer
by Kgwillkillyou on Dec 25, 2011 2:58 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
what happened?
i turned off the tv immediately after the buzzer sounded
Garnett
Grabbed a knick by the throat. He needs to be suspended there’s no place for that. He almost started a fight for no reason

the league is made up of mostly thugs
there’s lots going on in this clip -
first, Tyson Chandler, Thug A, chucks the ball skyward at the buzzer and taunts Bass with swear words and self pride
elsewhere, bill walker (thug wannabe B) approached KG (thug C) swearing and taunting as if he was going to push/punch/prod him -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXSfZnoXBx8
KG, then pushes walker by the throat area and shoves him -
just watch the 20 second clip a few times -
in all honestly, i couldn’t care less if KG gets suspended
pretty pathetic all around, they all ought to be ashamed.
Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk
I'd rather lose to Boston
Than let this go unpunished he should be ashamed taunting is one thing but when you grab a human by the throat that’s way over the line. Classless he owes the Knicks an apology doesn’t matter if they started it

It has become a thug league and I am getting tired of it
KG acted like a jerk — what else is new? Other players also acted like jerks, but KG always has to take it one step further.
Lol what more do you want
Stern comes down on players hard, you get flagrant fouls and ejections much much quicker than in years past. He’s already trying to cater to you guys who want all the players to hug and skip.
That’s ignorant statement that can be viewed in different ways. Basketball is a sport and athletes can be over competitive. In Hockey opposing players are allowed to fight, would u consider that thuggery?
Baseball and Football players fight too it’s apart of sports competitive nature. Though I’m not saying what KG or Walker did was acceptable, but these things happen.
There are many thugs in hockey.
Tyler Seguin and Dany Heatley were considered one of them. Matte Cook, another asshole who wears #24, is the worst of the lot.

Two different sports, two different set of rules, no comparisons
The NHL allows fightinpushing, etc. The NBA does not. Pretty easy to understand the difference.
is it horrible
that I secretly liked it? I love rooting for the Celtics, even more when they’re nasty. I doubt Garnett is going to apologize for anything.
But yeah, he should be suspended and it was low class.
… but yeah, I also love it. Garnett is a crazy, hungry fucker.

I understand being a hardcore bastard psychopath who does anything to win.
Garnett is this. I understand being forceful and intimidating and everything else and will to win and whatever. But after the buzzer sounds any real man ignores whatever words are being thrown around and goes back to the lockers to think about improving for the next game. Garnett acted like an utter wuss. You know that kid Renardo Sidney who went down on his team’s captain in the stands last year on camera?
Garnett is not Renardo Stanley. He’s a grown man, he knows this was Christmas, game one freaking A, not a finals matchup, impressionable kids around—Garnett is a man and should act like one. Goddamn, this is why I love the WNBA. All basketball, fundamentals, and the drama is kept at a 1%.
If Garnett acted like this as a police officer, a security guard, a baker, a fireman, it would be considered “issues” and “unacceptable behavior” and yes, the others involved should be ashamed too, but Garnett knows who he is, what he stands for, and more important, has been involved in stupid altercations like this in the past and it’s getting worse.
There are many kids who sleep in a Garnett jersey and model their game after him, is all I’m saying really.

I get more tired of the moral police. These are passionate players, and KG by the way was antogonized. The guy got right up in his face and started shootin his mouth off. After getting butt humped all night by Joey crawford then missing the game tieing shot, Do you people expect KG to walk up to some ahole callin him out and give him a hug? Im surprised KG didnt knock his freakin teeth out. Talk all ya want NY, when it comes down to it, you;re still Boston’s doormat.

Slapping Walker was, in itself a stupid thing and KG deserves appropriate discipline as determined by the NBA and the Celtics, but please stop misrepresenting his action.

Rondo was great but
I doubt he scores that many very often this year. Bass was fantastic this game he looks like our pf of the future right now. Sasha and Bradley looked awful. Where was Moore?! He outplayed bradley all preseason then Bradley gets the minutes. I really think for the celtics to be successful this year, we need to have two different units that play different styles. Have rondo be with the second unit all the time and the first unit most of the time and let dooling run the slow pace offense with Allen pierce kg oneal then bring in our fast paced team of rondo Moore bass Johnson and whoever else then the rest of the team fill in as role players to give rest to whoever on both units. In practice the other team is going to have to prepare for two teams we could be awesome that way

CHRISTMAS PRESENCE
On Christmas there was a team in the Garden,
The Celtics, whose resolve did harden.
Causeway Street? Not there,
It was at Madison Square.
From Ogden Nash I request a pardon.
Doc says “…we’re a no-excuse basketball team,”
All in pursuit of the Banner 18 dream.
Rondo’s a one man fast break,
To the hoop the ball he’ll take,
Cs are struggling without Pierce it would seem.
Q1 was a tough test for the Cs,
Never thought this would be a breeze,
Our new guys came out,
Doc wanted to shout,
Let’s bring Spike Lee to his knees.
Remember Wilcox was a Knick,
And so when the action was quick,
To Melo he passed,
Not thinking too fast,
To his stomach he must have felt sick.
Q2 double techs Toney and Ray,
Several turnovers, so far not Ray’s day.
Aggressive are the Knicks,
The Cs hardly set picks,
Doc says we’re “…soft, soft,” let’s play!
All of a sudden in the middle of Q2
Brandon Bass knew what to do,
Three and a half minutes, points eight,
He must keep playing great,
While Rondo continues to break through.
First half Rondo and Bass did score,
Without Pierce there was a hole in the core,
The others were slow,
Not much give and go,
From KG and Ray Cs need more.
7:11 left in Q3— tied 69,
Rondo took Melo’s elbow, he ’s fine,
RAY ALLEN FOR THREE
Been waiting to see,
Of Celtics Basketball a very clear sign!
JO took a charge in Q3,
Alley Oop Ray to JO we did see,
Rondo’s 40 foot pass,
To Marquis, not Bass,
Seems a Celtic Rondo really wants to be!
Bass has been putting on quite a show,
As if the Cs system he already does know,
With help from Ray,
That JO can play,
It’s ok their starting pace was slow.
Ray Allen twenty-five sixty-three,
Twice today RAY ALLEN FOR THREE,
Q4 Knicks had Melo,
Quite the scoring fellow,
So many fouls on both teams did we see.
Rondo played great, all over the floor,
He could pass and he could score.
Melo’s three the game was tied,
KG scored on the Cs’ side,
It was like a playoff game in Q4!
A hard fought game is what we have seen,
Last time the Knicks won, 2010, April Sixteen.
KG might be a trash talker,
But with our former guy, Walker?
We are still heading toward Banner Eighteen!

No Pierce, new players, about as close a score as you get in an NBA game, no shame at all. And how bout Rondo!!! Is he turning the corner? Hitting shots and free throws = 31pts 13assists. Dayum. Merry Christmas everyone!

Good Game for C's
Overall, the Celtics played a good game. It is unfortunate that we could not close the Knicks out. We need to do a better job at scoring when the game is on the line!
Rajon Rondo and Brandon Bass played unbelievable well. Welcome to Boston Bass! Garnett provided a spark offensively, but could not make the shot that counted the most – better luck next time. I hope people do not get ahead of themselves and assume that the Knicks are a better team. We played without PP. There is also MP to consider. Had they played, this could have turned out to be a different ball game.
I cannot really pass a judgment on Sasha, Dooling, Wilcox, and Marquis, it is too early in the season; but as a Delonte West fan all I could say is really?
I hope the media or fans for that matter don't jump on that either
But it would not surprise me.
They would however be wrong.

Excellent pick up, will endear himself to all celtics fans for putting in the extra effort. Gritty player
Well, at least it was an entertaining game...I guess
The C’s exceeded my expectations honestly, although the outcome was what I figured it’d be.
Really nice game for Rondo and Bass.
Gotta say I was a little bummed hat the C’s 4th quarter woes but them yet again. Oh well, maybe had Pierce played the outcome may have been different.

C's season started mid-2nd quarter
Until then, they were still sleeping it off. Though they lost, a lot went right today. Rondo of course, KG, Ray, Bass, even JO, all were fine. Quis had an off game, and of course our Captain was out and will be back soon (hopefully).
(Unfortunately, along with the NBA we also have those godawful NBA refs back.)
All in all, this was a pretty good game for the Cs, insofar as it bodes well going forward.
wow
that felt like a playoff game and i LOVED what i saw after that 1st quarter. Have to say though, Joey Crawford changed that whole game. I cant imagine how he justifies that to himself. Bass appears so far to indeed be a upgrade over Baby as he plays bigger and seems to be more effective on offense and on the boards.
C's gave a galant effort.....
and almost pulled out the win but just could not connect on there last few field goal attempts.
Donny Marshal I think made a good point in the post game show when he said the C’s were at there best during the game when they took it to the basket on offense, but hurt themselves at the end of the game when they settled for perimeter shots.
I agree with others not a bad loss considering the C’s were without Pierce.
Bright point of the day was Rondo had a monster game and Bass continues to impress offensively and on the boards.
Sad point of the day is with this loss the C’s are 1-3 on Xmas day since 2008.
They don't "settle" for them...
That’s all they are capable of other than transition and Rondo – they have no low post offense and only one player who can take anyone off the dribble. The team needs transition and they need to fully make Rondo the “closer” in the 4th quarter and let other play off him.
Once they got into crunch time, it turned into the “KG & Ray” show…which, unfortunately, was cancelled last season for lack of effectiveness.
Rondo is the future and present – you let him be Derrick Rose or you don’t win against the best
by BillfromBoston on Dec 25, 2011 3:51 PM EST up reply actions
Its my ....
my belief also and I have been harping on this for a awhile the C’s lack a low post offensive presence in a half court game and it hurts them at times.
Though KG and J.O. do have low post scoring skills they do not like going in the paint for whatever reason and I hope Doc would urge them to get in the paint more often for more offensive field goal attempts to offer the C’s more higher % field goal attempts.
This is I think more vital especially later in games when games are tight and so are the rims when opposing teams step up there defense and the C’s legs start to get tired and outside perimeter shots are tougher to make .
I like what I see from Bass and Wilcox and maybe even Greg when he does play and hope they can get the C’s some more points in the paint to help balance out there perimeter offense and not have to rely on it all the time.
Also with the C’s going with more of a fast break offense this year, it should help them get more points in the paint with there athletic bigs (that they do now have in KG, Bass, Wilcox and Greg) and wing players via transition layups and dunks etc. which should help get the C’s some points in the paint especially if they have problems getting points in the paint via a half court setup offense.
the post game is dependent on spacing
Luv Quis for his many talents, but he is simply not an outside threat.
Add PP to the mix and that prevents the defense from sagging the extra defender into the paint.

I thought...
Pav would of helped more defensively against Anthony today but he did not.
I think he was ok aggressive wise on defense, though I thought he could of been more physical with Anthony who had a great game to his credit against both Pav and Daniels.
I would like to Pav get more aggressive on the offensive end of the court and to see him get more involved with the C’s offense to get into the flow of a game.
Its just one game though and I think he will help the C’s more often then not as the season progresses.
Yes - he can contribute...
Anyone that watched him in Cleveland knows he can do many things…but his head has always been his biggest enemy…gotta find him that confidence, which is what the start was partically about, i’d imagine.

disappointed in dooling. Oneal still looks ancient to me . he had at least 3 dunks he couldn’t finish cuz he has no lift anymore. we need some more beef up front to get through this season. daniels and pavo really sucked as far as scoring went today. i Liked their effort on D but pavolic has to look for his shot. that was ridiculous. is dooling really an upgrade over delonte? why not play moore? we were struggling to score and the kid never gets off the becnh. he has to be better than bradley who is a disaster with the ball in his hands
Never gets off the bench? It is the 1st game. If Doc put Avery in for 6 min and Moore in for 6 seconds, there is a reason. Avery has better D and doc has to try to get him to find his shot in s game, as according to doc he is lights out in 3 on 3.

Not really I think KG should of posted down-low off the switch. The last few seconds KG should of drive to the basket instead of shooting.

At the end of games when KG’s legs get a bit tired and wobbly he should try to get in the paint a bit more often and post up his defender to get a closer range and higher % shot..

one play of many.
Cut Sasha and pick up our old friend...
Eddie House!
can we give the guy a couple more weeks to get the system?
Sasha has had 1/3 season already, and I still say give him time too.
Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t be upset if they were upgraded, but how likely is that? They can’t trade either for a couple months, and still have to pay them if they are cut, still counting against the luxury tax. And that hinges on a player being available and wanting to cone here that is worth the trouble of cutting and all the extraneous pay. Besides Doc lives Dooling and is thrilled that we finally have a true back up for Rondo, has wanted him for years. And still believes in Sasha too, or at least so he says. Sasha was productive even a couple years ago and is only 28, the talent doesn’t just fall off like that. Give them time to learn the system.
Face it neither of them are likely to be going anywhere unless Wilson Chandler calls Danny from China begging to cut Sasha and sign him for the vet min it ain’t gonna happen.
They could be traded at the deadline or just before, but they are not going to be the focal point of any trade and would only get thrown in to match salaries, and without Green we would likely gave to move one of the fab four which does not improve the team. Can we get over this?
People gotta stop being so quick to jump on and fire a guy. Dudes have played 3 GAMES, 2 of which were preseason and one dude plating with a unit he under most circumstances would not be. Give them slack.

oh i know what sasha brings...
Buckets for Melo!
Do you not remember...............
House as a ball handler. I used to shudder watching him try to bring the ball upcourt. If Doc says Sasha is OK, I’ll go with his opinion over yours.
by CelticsUKfan on Dec 25, 2011 3:27 PM EST up reply actions
We don't need House handling the ball....
That is what Dooling was brought in for. House can play very easily (and probably better) off-ball.
well I am glad to see............
that House has a fan club!!! How many members other than you?
by CelticsUKfan on Dec 25, 2011 3:33 PM EST up reply actions
im glad sasha has a 1 member fan club..
least someone liked seeing him get abused tonight
I am quite sure........
Melo has and will abuse a few this season.
by CelticsUKfan on Dec 25, 2011 3:35 PM EST up reply actions
lol true..
sasha just didnt show anything though..least if pierce got abused he would probably contribute in other ways.. i dont know what sasha did well besides .. well i dont know.. maybe you seen a play u could remind me of
Sasha wasn't a star
by any means. I was too busy watching Rondo!!! PP would have been a better match-up against Melo.
by CelticsUKfan on Dec 25, 2011 3:39 PM EST up reply actions
least with house, though he wasn’t the greatest ball handler, you still couldn’t give him a open look for more then a second or it was raining 3’s.On the other hand you give guys like sasha the shot..
I think he might surprise you...........
keep in mind he is a bench player who started for the captain.
by CelticsUKfan on Dec 25, 2011 3:41 PM EST up reply actions
well i hope ur right
he is a celtics, so as long as he’s here i hope he proves me wrong an brings something… otherwise its on to the next one..
hard to be unsatisfied for me..........
when we lose by 2 on THEIR court w/o The Truth on the floor. Bass amazed and RR is just what I expected.

you would be more satisfied
if melo doesnt get that cheap call at the end..
How can you guard aggresively if you get called for a foul for stepping within a foot of Carmello?
by ianboyextreme on Dec 25, 2011 3:44 PM EST up reply actions
Sasha is certainly younger
I may be wrong but I feel like I was surprised to find out House was as old as he is. But I don’t fell like looking it up so…
He has a great shot, but terrible handle, nor great D. And is way too small to guard 2s. We traded him away because we needed someone who could carry the ball (and a spark). This is not a + move.

The Rondo.....
behind the back pass to Bass and his threading the needle fastbreak pass to Quis… deliciousss!!!!! ..both using the left by the way!
As soon as Pierce and Pietrus are fit
Pavlovic will be gone,
He should take Bradley with him.
Shed the junk on our team. Play the more talented rookies.
We would have won
If pierce Moore or pietrus had played. Obviously Moore is the only one who could have played but even that I think would have been enough bradley was awful and moores defense is not that much worse than Bradley’s but he is far superior on offense
by JuJuan some moore on Dec 25, 2011 6:00 PM EST up reply actions
not very nice.
By the way bet his net worth (bank acct) is more than yours so he is definitely not worthless.
I hated the move last year, didn’t like it this year, but they obviously didn’t. Yes he bit it tonight but Give the guy a chance to find his role and learn the system please.

If I'm not mistaken...
…another option for that last play was for KG to bring it back to Rondo, then KG curls towards the basket for an alleyoop…. but yeah. It’s all right! Don’t be bashing Sasha too much yet… besides the fact that it’s been only the 1st official game out of a lockout, he was up against one of the best players in the NBA today… and obviously was on Joey Crawford’s naughty list ;)
Dooling was a disappointment when manning the point
Bass is a monster. His leaping ability and range are a beauty. Sasha did a decent defensive job against Melo. In the 4th the successive fouls took the defense on Melo off. It was confusing to see fouls being called while the defenders arms are stretch way out his body just to show the ref he’s not doing anything. It’s only 2 points but I’m still disappointed we lose.
It was clear Paul's presence was missed.
Daniels and Sasha had no answer for Melo. I think Paul of done a better job defensively because he’s the same size as Melo, but Paul was seriously missed on offense.
Melo bailed out the Knicks...
There were no plays going for ’em really… It was all scattered. Melo was just that good to be able to bail out the whole team with awful rotation… But it is true that a loss is a loss or a win is a win… but in the long run, I like our chances way better than theirs ;)
Next up, Miami! I hope Pietrus gets cleared by then, so most of us here can judge him for that game immediately! hahaha ;)
Crawford bailed them out....

-1 Seriously?
I’m assuming that’s a typo. After 30 points and 13 assists – what you came away with from this game is that Rondo is holding the Celtics back and must be traded?

Miami is our next game, right?
That is the real test. They’re creaming the defending champs right now!
Creaming is not the word right.
Heat are playing with a chip on their shoulders. I’m about to sleep after the half is over, then wake up later to catch the Bulls vs Lakers.
good idea..
i think its already over.. mercy rule?
don't underestimate them.
Kobe has proven time and time again he is a champion gotta respect his tenacity
There's no such thing as a good or bad call, but
You don’t call a foul when clearly Daniels swiped the ball out of Melo’s hand. With a high stakes crucial game, tie with 48 or 16 seconds left u don’t blow your whistle. That was just a horrible call.
It was!
I don’t like using bad calls as an excuse, but the Crawford call was horrible, then also he calls a tech on Sasha, when clearly he did nothing wrong.
thats 3 points right there
minus that an celtics win…
Yea
Wish we held on for the win, but it’s only the first game of a season. Definitely think we got a good season ahead of us, without question.
I learned how to make a sig just so it can say "DFA Darnell MacDonald". That means it must happen.
one game and people on this blog want doolings and sashas blood and are calling for eddie house. give me a break. house has been dropped from miami and is having a knee operation and i bet the same people wanted to trade eddie when he was here. melo is a one heckuva player and sasha and quissy didn’t pattycake him.the knicks are improved and played better d than last year. the t on sasha after melo elbowed him twice and the flop call were atrocious and refs should get fined for blatant crap calls.when the ref controls the outcome of a game el senor stern should be on it pronto. rondo and kg playing iso at the end of the game was bad decision making and a sign of tired players. brandon got a 3 bass hit today.
Crunch time woes reappear to open the season
Exciting game but the Celtics came up short. There were a few bad calls but the Celtics’ poor execution late cost them dearly as well. It is strange how a team with a top NBA coach and more than enough veteran leaders so often falters late in games. The Celtics led the NBA in blowing double digit leads last season and did so again today.
Hopefully this trend of the past couple seasons of faltering late in games doesn’t plague Boston again this year. Can’t afford to give away games in the 4th quarter especially with the daunting schedule that lies ahead…

Moore
Has ice in his veins hopefully he will get a chance to show he can close games then our problems are solved with rondo Moore and Allen. Why was Garnett taking the last shot anyway? Allen is one of the best or all time and we dont get it to him?
by JuJuan some moore on Dec 25, 2011 6:03 PM EST up reply actions
Unfortunately this is permanent
Tje team has no go to scoring option to generate points in crunch time when defenses lock in. If they don’t ride Rondo down the stretch they have no chance of scoring efficiently with the big three in massive offensive decline

1) Happy Festivus everyone! 2) I missed the game (4 am start over here), but just from looking at the match report it was clear that having Pierce in this game would have swung it for us. Looking forward to the Heat!

Can Joey Please Retire Already!
Every time i see Joey Crawford reffing a Celtics game i already know it will be 5 on 6! he’s gotta go! He is truly “The Grinch” to the Celtics!
Wow, is Pavlovic a a waste of space on the bench
Contributed ZERO, and that is what I expect from him whenever he is on the floor.
I think it is going to be extremely ugly Tuesday night after watching Miami today. And, it will be worse if KG gets suspended for slapping Bill Walker in the head after the game. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with KG?
However, I expected to lose the first two games and then the season can officially begin.
they won't suspend KG
the c’s play the heat in 2 days. stern will want all the stars aligned for that one.
Celts are getting blown out in Miami anyway, so would be a good game to suspend him for
Get some more rest for KG
folks wonder...
why the NBA has so few hardcore fans nowadays.
it’s because of games like teh game today. i KNEW the refs would help the knicks get back into the game in the 4th. if the c’s had been down 10 the refs probably would have helped them too.
these naitonally televised games are fixed so that they’re close almost every time.
and the c’s knicks game was the opening act of a long day of basketball – the league wants to keep people locked in all day.
so don’t fret, folks, this game was just a glorified exhibition..
Shouldn't know your name
Joey Crawford! If we do your not doin your damn job. That said , the late game breakdown again is more than frustrating. Thought that’s what the bench was for. Doc has to have the starters fresh down the stretch. Rondo and bass were great
It is hard to believe how pathetic the combined stat line is for Sasha and Bradley
Two guys that really should never see the court
Watching bulls vs lakers
Hate to say it but it must be nice having an injured superstar that still plays
by Kgwillkillyou on Dec 25, 2011 7:05 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Sure
Because pressure on your non shooting hand is greater than pressure on your heel, and the first game is worth risking further injury
I know im gonna catch hell for saying that
But im sorry, thats my opinion.

Glad that the Lakers lost that game....
how they lost it in the final minutes after having a 11 point lead was even better…lol.
Scoring drought problem of last year....
Was still present during game 1. Cs only scored 2pts in the last 3:06 of the game. Given Pierce didn’t play. But still only 2pts at the home stretch.
+2
True it was frustrating to see the scoring drought problem arise again todat as it has in he past.
I think its due to a mixture of lack of execution at times, settling for low % perimeter shots, sometimes just missing easy baskets and fatigue of the veteran players.
Hopefully the C’s will some how remedy this problem and not allow it to continue to be a problem .
I think if the starters are struggling and cold offensively the signing of Pietrus who can offer scoring punch off the bench will possibly help reduce the chance of scoring droughts through the season.
Scoring drought problem of last year….
Was still present during game 1. Cs only scored 2pts in the last 3:06 of the game. Given Pierce didn’t play. But still only 2pts at the home stretch.
They got off to a slow start it happens. They didn’t have Pierce expected them to struggle, but Doc got into the team’s head and they after the first half the Celts responded. I think KG and Allen took some bad shots during the final minutes, but Joey Crawford gave the Knicks and Melo a X-MAS gift.
During the final minutes Crawford gave Sasha and JO techs each, really? In season open rivalry Crawford calls two techs and a foul on M.Daniels. That changed the outcome and tone of the game. That I’m sure hurt the C’s momentum heading into Tuesday match.
We need
Better clock management down the stretch. This is a three year pattern
Who cares?
This would be a good day for the 86 celtics- watch the Bird/ Dr J fight or Parish/ Lambier

Nate Robinson got waived
Anyone be interested in picking him up? Cause you guys said it best this team needs scorers, and Nate is a handful at times, but there was a lot of times last year that he started for Rondo and we didn’t miss a beat. I would take him back in an instant

Gotta give credit to Melo
Melo played his butt off and took advantage of Daniels and Sasha match-ups. But I was just looking at the stat sheet for both teams and ESPN’ NBA ‘Countdown’ crew pointed this out too, that the Knicks were not impressive at all statistically.
They were supposed to be this dominate force w/Chanlder’s defense, but they look like the same Knicks from last season. High scoring team that plays no defense. The Knicks just upgraded offensively. One would think with Pierce out the Knicks would of had their way with the Celts for all 4 quarters, but that was far from the truth.
The Celtics shot a better percentage, had more assists, out rebounded and scored more points in the paint than the NYK. The Knicks had more to lose than anyone. I just hope the C’s can bounce back from a tough loss.
Miami will be a tough one, because now KG and Paul will be questionable to play possibly coming back to BOS with 1W-2L.
http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/celtics/post/_/id/4687599/video-countdown-crew-wowed-by-rondo
Given that the New Orleans game is the second night of a back-to-back
There is a real possibility the Celts will be 0-3 for their home opener. Although New Orleans is likely so messed up the Celts could pull out a win.
Same ol' same ol'
Nice to see things haven’t changed since last season. Look at the box score and tell me what the 4th quarter score is. Oh yeah we lost the 4th by 10!
Basically...
I liked what I saw from Rondo and Bass. Bass is a huge upgrade but I knew that. It looks like Rondo once again worked his ass off offseason. I see a better arch, form, and touch from his jumpers. Besides the ones that were out if his range, they definitely looked great.
Our problem is creating offense when Rondo is on the bench. With Pierce out this problem definitely looked a lot worse.
KGs hops didnt look that bad which was a good sign but that was the only postive from him tonight.
The Knicks didnt really impress me. Even when Davis returns and thats a big if, I still see them having problems creating smooth offense. It will still be here Melo, do your thing.
Overall expected this loss. Expecting another one vs the Heat but our team looks solid and steady.
"I’m going to probably fade to black,’’ he said. "To be honest, I’m not a showman guy. I’m going to fade to black. I don’t know what I will do. I’m an idealist. I have a high drive and I’m very determined. Fade to black, man, like evaporate.’’

Anybody else notice
Troy Murphy and his 7 pts and 8 rebounds for LA? Apparently he can play again.
As for the Celtics, I’m not worried at all. Extremely impressed by Bass and Rondo, got what I expected out of Carmelo etc. When we get PP back we’ll be cruising.

This is basketball, if you don’t want to see violence go watch something else like Glee. Or, watch other teams like lakers or miami heat where you can see Kobe and Gasol, Wade and Lebron kissing each other.

The Wilcox blunder.......
Seriously, right after Wilcox gave Melo the ball when he got confused on which team he played for I said “if we lose by 2 or less, I’m going to fly to Boston myself and slap him”
KG HATE GOING AROUND
Ive been a KG fan since forever. And for some members to hate on him for his actions after the game I scratch my head. Dont you want a player who will stand up for your city? Isnt KG known for being emotional? He isnt an actor that can turn on and off emotions you know. If you dont wanna see players getting to physical i suggest go watch chess. In every contact sport things like that are bound to happen. Calling them thugs lol. I dont see you helping around your community.

All im saying is you guys kinda turned on KG real fast without even knowing facts like what was said. I mean its one thing to beat up defenseless fans but cmon you and I know that Bill Walker is a douche. Just by opening your mouth you know that theres a 50/50 chance something might go down. Not just because thier ball players they can shut emotions down. They are still human after all. I just couldnt believe that we could turn against our own that fast. Its like we pulled a Kobe.

It's not like i want to cut the guy
I am just saying he deserves a suspension and what do you mean defensless fans? We have just as many defenses as the players. I don’t care what the guy says you don’t grab him by the throat. He seriously would have gone to jail if he had done that anywhere else can you imagine the shit storm if his wife kept nagging him so he grabbed her like that?

I'd take this loss. I saw some really good stuff.
Outside the techs we couldve won this game. The offense looked out of sync but got it back in later in the games. JO looked solid on the defensive end. And boy I love how Bass played (iin my fantasy league too, nice). If he can play like that pretty much every game. The team looked solid and that’s without Paul. I think we’re headed into some good things, as long as we stay healthy.
The techs were a joke and the foul on Marquis at the end was a joke
But, the Celtics could not score at the end of the game – just like last year and the year before — and in the end, that is why they lost
It all comes down to Doc's poor time management for his players.
.
Doc talks the talk, but in the end, has not changed his approach to this issue. Doc needs to change now. Don’t wait until half the season is over. Tired players cannot compete as well against the other team’s best players and tend to get injured more.
This issue is the only thing I don’t like about Doc.
still no d
they beat us by 2 without the truth what does that tell you ? they still cant play defense even with chandler and mello is still the whole team they are far away from being a title contender
lohaus #54
A Paul Pierce isolation...
Would have given the Knicks a total nightmare in overtime ;D. Just saying!
