PHOENIX, AZ - MARCH 13: Mickael Pietrus #12 of the Phoenix Suns moves the ball upcourt past Brandon Bass #30 and Chris Duhon #25 of the Orlando Magic during the NBA game at US Airways Center on March 13, 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona. Mickael Pietrus will be taking a physical today and continuing tomorrow. As we found out in the Jeff Green situation, these things are pretty important. Of particular concern in this case is the injured knee that put the kibosh on the Suns-Raptors trade a couple of weeks ago. The risk for the Celtics is much less than it would have been for the Raptors since they would have taken on his full salary and the current signing is just for the veteran minimum. However, the team would like to see that he's at least on pace to get healthy soon.

"We’re not sending him to Miami or New Orleans," Celtics President Danny Ainge said today. "He hasn’t even practiced. He hasn’t done anything yet. I’m not sure when that will happen. I hate to speculate on stuff like that." Though they don’t expect Pietrus’ recovery from July surgery to take much longer, the team is still investigating the condition of his knee. "We’ve talked to the Phoenix doctor, and we have some information from him," said Ainge. "But we have no idea on his knee, except that it should heal soon."

I was hoping for sooner than next week - especially with Pierce still on the "day to day" list, but I'll take what I can get. It is a long (short) season and I'd rather take our time to get people healthy for the long haul and playoffs.
