"Rivers left the door open for West to come back against Miami on Sunday. It will largely depend on how West does at practice, who went through his first full-contact work this week."

Delonte has said that...

….his wrist won’t be 100% for another six months…but he is able to play now and take part in full contact practice.

by barefacedmonk on Feb 11, 2011 11:05 PM EST up reply actions

It's not

even his shooting wrist, let him play 10-12 minutes at least. I understood when they signed
a Shaq for example, he was going to miss his share of games. JO, I have already given
up on him personally. When your roster is depleted like NOW for example, time for some people to bite the bullet a bit, and get their butt out there.

a broken wrist is nothing to mess with

but they sure could use him

no, it just kind of happened

like warriorspirit’s wall of text below -
- it was the first thing i though of when i read delonte might be back tomorrow -
- it’s exciting, but the graphic picture really shows what a complex mechanism the wrist is -
- i hope they’re not rushing him back, though i don’t think they are -

The Celtics

Don’t rush guys to often. They seem to take there time in most cases. Last year they rushed Paul, but they really had no choice. Garnett they might have done in 09 when he tried to play in Mid-March after the injury in Utah. It would be nice to get Shaq back, but not going to hold my breathe on that one

good to know

that he’s apparently close enough to returning to even start considering him ready for Sunday. impressed he’s bounced back this quickly

Do you think it may be that they feel desperate

And Delonte is putting pressure on the team that he can contribute safely. Or is it just that they can afford state of the art treatments that can make it so a compound fracture (bone thru skin penetration) can be healed enough for the player to play on a competitive professional level within months, because this is not normal, this is not the diagnosis most of us would receive.
Or is Delonte just another Warrior on this team? Anything is possible, especially if you are so motivated. And the adrenalin you get from playing on such a painful injury can carry you to absolutely wonderous heights of performance. But I must say, it is absolutely rediculously stupidly insane. I can imagine that the pain from starting to play again from scratch, from a restful state, could be tremendously more difficult than playing on it immediately post injury.
If Delonte plays before he is ready, yeah I would expect that all of what is riding on it on top of adenaline will bring out a great performance, but it Could have a big affect on his future career.
This statement reflects even more the situation that Marquis may go through. Again I most whole heartedly could come back from this injury and even be strong enough inside to surprise us all. But to do this could affect his entire career and most likely the rest of his life. I could see that tough SOB, both of them in fact doing this, but it is possible they could never play the same again post the common era.
Delonte may benefit from the fact that it is not his shooting, writing, dominant hand, so he may be able to cover up for such an injury briefly. But, while I believe Marquis can push through, we are all different, but again I believe he can. It is his spine folks, anything involving it can be serious and WILL be life changing in some way.
It is a decision both of them ultimately have to make. And any choice would be understandable. I can almost not believe that Delonte could return so quick. That my friends could just be quite the reflection of our desperate needs now. Danny himself the day of the Laker game states that he is not ready and wont be until post allstar break.
You know what, as much as I convince myself that we need a Battier, Hill, Landry, Pietrus or Prince (or that I am a gm) I change my stance. I would leave the final call with Quisy, if he says he wants to pursue it, I want to believe he can. He should consult doctors, he could hear it both ways, yes and no, you can and cannot play. It could be possible folks that he could play. It is possible he could be the same player we have seen this season, it is possible he could be the best he ever has been. It is also possible he could be a shell of himself. He could play hard now and make it through half another season and fall out of the league. It is a decision that any athelete coming back from injury has to make. The Wes Welkers and Perks pushing their returns so quickly could find themselves in similar categories. Sure any of these guys could play for years, they could have dominant games that fill a mind full of fond memories. But these games could become fewer and fewer, quicker and quicker.
I am not trying to inspire fear or doubt, on the contrary, loyalty, strength and faith.
If JO, Perk, Quisy, and Delonte know the consequences and choose to come back early. And restore our depth and title hopes, I will put on my green goggles and believe them. Actually moving a gody, nate or pick to insure the depth while keeping the injured player too could influence their self doubt, and if said replacement player doesnt perform well and doubt creeps in to their heads and injuries, it could be most ineffective.
None of us are working for the C’s, so I will maintain my trust in their judgement, and ability to realize need from panic. Yes the goal this year is a different game 7 outcome. I undrrstand that they need to keep in mind that it is a business, and speaking with that in mind, loyalty at times takes a back seat. my hope is that I am wrong about their resolve and that we could somehow trade Gody and a 1st rounder for Landry while keeping Quisy et al without affecting motivation levels, confidence levels of anyone and that they can play full bore with no lasting after effects. But it would have to be one sweet fate to have all those ducks in a row.
For now I put my faith in our players resolve, toughness and ability, and in the judgement of Celtics brass.

It's hard to read a wall of text...

"The celtics were a way of life. A group of people so diverse you cannot imagine; working together, day in and day out for a common goal. What was necessary was ten players, two baskets, thirteen thousand people and one basketball. We would decide what was done with that one basketball." ~ Bill Russell

Sorry

Just kind of happened.
Not at a computer often, just on a phone. Kind of limited with what it can do. Been a while since I wrote something that long, and I have always written with more emotional content and personal touch than … Proper form or good editing. I havent read it yet myself and probably wint until tomorrow, there are I believe 5-7 different paragraphs, but I apologize if its rough.
Good night.

I would prefer Delonte stay out until ....

after the Allstar game to give him a bit more time to heal.

But if Nate is out injured on Sunday, considering it such a big game if the Doctors give Delonte clearance then I say go for it and give him some spot minutes.

If the Docs think he's good to go

we need someone that can help at SF. He hasn’t played since Nov and it’s his non shooting hand. I’m sure he’ll be rusty and won’t be 100% for a couple of weeks but, I’m would be quite happy to see him play this Sunday.

I don't know about you...

but I’m really ready for this team to start handing out (pun intended…) some serious beat-downs at full strength. Game on!

Good situation

Pretty much warm up for him even though it’s a big game. He’s a hustler and that’s what the c’s needs right now. Good thing it’s his none shooting hand. Beside that, let’s just enjoy him on the court finally.

If hes ready, then ok

Something needs to happen, dont want to be negative cuz I love this team but we r slowly falling. Dropping easy games, not getting into any win streak, the heat r on our tails

by Kgwillkillyou on Feb 12, 2011 1:20 AM EST via mobile reply actions

YOU AREN'T GETTING ANYONE FROM THE CAVS ANYMORE

I LOVE THIS TEAM JUST THE WAY IT IS

I love LA! Clippers, that is. Why? They beat the Heat and lost to the Cavs.

wait a minute, this thread isn't about trades

never mind.

Finally some good news on the injury front.

If the Doctors think he’s good like Perkins who came back earlier than expected and proved he was ready I’m good with DWest as well. It his non shooting hand.

Play Him... Delonte doesn't use his right hand anyway....at least not to dribble......

Sorry, couldn’t resist….What I really feel, though, is that they should keep him out till after the All-Star break as originally planned. We need him later more than we need him now.
