I've been told Troy Murphy is headed C's way & I could see Leon Powe winding up back there, too, after buyouts.

What makes people think he is going any where? They love him in Sac town.

Agreed

I’m interested in having Troy Murphy more so than Leon Powe.

I hope this report is true.. the Troy Murphy coming to the C’s part!

At most though, would Powe win us a game?

uh...

It seems he won a game for the C’s in the 2008 NBA Finals

Indeed he did. Phil was so baffled he couldn’t even pronounce Leons name correctly.

Powe is defensive-minded, rebounding-minded

And like Perk, is also a hard worker even if under-sized.

But most of all, he knows the system & thus, will contribute right away.

For now, only Pierce is our reliable wing defender, he needs a back-up.

It’s either Powe or Brewer, we don’t need a wing shooter like Kapono or Rasual Butler since most of trhe guys we now have can really score & that we also have Wafer as our wing shooter from the bench.

What we need now is a defensive & rebounding-minded player.

Dont know anything about this guy

IS he any good? Would he be an upgrade or a downgrade? What can he bring to us?

by Kgwillkillyou on Feb 25, 2011 5:17 PM EST via mobile reply actions

who, Chris Johnson? My wife can box him out. Forget it!

by Dantenina on Feb 25, 2011 5:21 PM EST reply actions

Chris 'The HELACOPTA' Johnson could be "intriguing" if...

he put on 100 pounds.

BTW, I am floating the nickname The Helacopta for this kid. Please use it liberally. Pretty soon the TNT broadcasters will start using in games — sample dialogue:

Van Gundy: You can’t let ‘The Helacopota’ catch those back-door alley oops from Rondo like that.
Mark Jackson: HAND DOWN. MAN DOWN!

Jesus Shuttlesworth: I hate my name. What kind of name is Jesus anyway?
Jake Shuttlesworth: It's biblical.
Jesus Shuttlesworth: Yeah, no kidding.

Great rebounder though, if he can stay healthy at all.

Probably be willing to bring him aboard and see what he can bring for 5-10 minutes a game.

What can it hurt if he can’t do anything? You got 3 rosters spots, Powe is worth a shot.

Not so sure about Murphy...

He’s a big body with experience and all, but why has he just played 18 games this season?
Are we getting another injured player?

by braz on Feb 25, 2011 5:30 PM EST reply actions

Injured, washed up.

Both are possible, but worth a chance at the nothing cost he will come at.

Worst case scenario, is Doc realizes quickly the guy has no legs anymore and is completely washed up, and he sits the bench, you’re no worse off than you were before, and there aren’t many other options for big guys out there, so an open roster spot doesn’t help you, worth a shot.

Now, if he does has something left, we’re talking about a guy who averaged a double double not all that long ago, can provide great spacing on the floor and knock down big shots. Good potential there.

what it boils down to

is we dont have much in the way of options. In DA’s fantasy world both the oneals are 100% rest of the way through. But we know that wont happen, and we need whoever we can get.

by spinz on Feb 25, 2011 6:55 PM EST up reply actions

Just for the heck of it...

…bring Leon back as 15th man, throw him at the wall and see if he sticks. He won’t diminish our chances at a championship anyway.

No to Powe....and his 90 year old knees!!!!

The only question surrounding Powe is : On what date does he tear up his knee next?

Or...

what can the Celtics give them now or in the future before “we buy out Troy Murphy.”

When is the earliest we can get rid of Jeff Green?

For fair value, of course.

Green was born in Maryland…as was Len Bias & Reggie Lewis

I agree.

He said the C’s emotions affected the way they played the Nuggets. What I saw was a bunch of tired players who kept up with the Nuggets who had all their players. Ric needs to be fired.

boy alot of powe doubters out there short memories on what that man done for us . so i guess everybody on this site is comfortable with both gimpy o.neals do you really think they are going to be healthy by playoff time boy howard and noha are licking there chops now that they wont see perk down low . murphy is garbage might as well bring back scal.

lohaus #54

by lohaus#54 on Feb 25, 2011 6:15 PM EST reply actions

We don’t have short memories, it’s just Powe hasn’t really done much since June 2008. Almost three years. He’s been injured quite a bit. Murphy is MUCH better than Scal even if he hasn’t played all that much, c’mon now. Troy put up 14.6 ppg, 10.2 rpg, good shooting % too last year, can shoot the three well.

by bigboyinboston on Feb 25, 2011 6:29 PM EST up reply actions

On EEI last night Danny said he thought he'd add another big and another wing.

Then possibly a guard as well if they took on three new guys. Murphy and Powe would be two big guys.

by clover on Feb 25, 2011 6:17 PM EST reply actions

Murphy would be a nice pick up...

since he could help spread the floor with his perimeter shooting and add depth to the frontline since he can play the 4 and also spot duty at the 5 as well.

The C’s would still have 2 roster spots open that they would need to fill.

With the questions surrounding the health of Shaq and J.O. and the loss of Perks defense I would like to see 1 of the final 2 spots given to a strong, big defending center like Camby or Dalembert.

by fordescort on Feb 25, 2011 6:18 PM EST reply actions

Danny said he’s looking for a “big who can spread the floor” during pregame last night. Don’t know who else he could have in mind, but Murphy fits that bill.

by bigboyinboston on Feb 25, 2011 6:26 PM EST reply actions

that's the definition of Murphy

I don’t see anyone else he could possibly have in mind… assuming Rasheed is out of the picture. The Brad Miller ship has sailed. There are only a handful of shooting bigs in the league in the first place. Is Tim Thomas in the gym these days?

Um, it better not be Antoine.

by sofutomygaha on Feb 25, 2011 6:44 PM EST up reply actions

Are people mentioning Marcus Camby out of pure speculation, or is there some basis for it?

Camby is a central piece of a team in the playoff mix in the west — a team that just traded its only other center away for a very good player. In other words, a team that NEEDs him and is NOT in salary-slashing mode. Why on earth would they buy him out? Doesn’t make any sense at all.

by Cousin It on Feb 25, 2011 6:41 PM EST reply actions

I don't see us getting rid of Camby.

It wouldn’t make any sense, especially since our higher ups now believe that we can make at least a little bit of noise in the West.

would the cavs buy out baron davis?

i feel like we must be getting someone from the cavs….the semih/luke deal just didn’t really make much sense

by yelkao on Feb 25, 2011 7:39 PM EST reply actions

Marc Spears just said on CSN

that the Warriors have a need for Murphy and may not buy him out. It’s not looking likely right now although that could change if Murphy chooses to leave a lot of $ on the table.

Danny needs to bring back Leon.

Perk is a BEAST!!

by FLCeltsFan on Feb 25, 2011 7:45 PM EST reply actions

No one knows who Danny wants.......

people could be as surprised as they were when Perk was traded. Murphy might not be who is on DA’s radar….so let’s not judge the deal by Murphy being in the deal or not.

Troy has played limited minutes this year because there is problems between him and avery johnson be is supposedly in avery’s dog house. Troy is not known for his one on one defense but with the culture we have here things change ,pp wasn’t known as a good defender same for ray and a lot of our guys over the past 3 years but the team concept is what it is you HAVE to defend so I think with trots size and his rebounding and ability to spread the floor he will buy into our team defense.

I have heard that canny is staying put if he is bought out he will retire, rip hamilton also is not being bought out there is some kind of inner management and ownership beef goin on up there. Parker is also not being bought out by cleveland .

I.m.o. I think it will end up being troy murphy and mo peterson……maybe powe comes back but I’m not sold on his knees but I still love the guy.

by reggie_35 on Feb 25, 2011 7:57 PM EST via mobile reply actions

We are most likely getting parker and murphy

Semih and luke to the Cavs?
They are gonna ship parker to the celtics for this in a pre arranged deal.
Muprhy will come over too.

by Chambers on Feb 25, 2011 8:04 PM EST reply actions

I think that too.

And that is the reason behind the Luke, Semih, Quis deals…. the “pre-arranged” deals ;)

Didn’t someone say yesterday that he was called up from Maine?
Or did someone mix him up with Chris Johnson?

Murphy ok......Powe no.

Or else you traded Erden away to make room for Powe?!?

by LarryBird33 on Feb 25, 2011 9:18 PM EST reply actions

No Powe... love the guy but..

I rather sign troy and Joel Prysbilla. The guy is a 7’1 defensive monster. It would be cool to see Joel under the rim and Troy chucking up a 3.

halarious

murphy is garbage but you all want powe who is more banged up then my 90 year old gramma. powe hasn’t done anything in 3 years. now thats who i would call garbage, murphy is 100 times better than powe even at there best. and your crying about the oneils being hurt and you want powe to come to our team. his knees are no better than those guys. me i never wanna see his face again in green but hey danna go ahead trade perk and pick up another bum. i guess if you put them altogether you can make half a center go green dont let anything stop you from the dream.
