Buy Out Rumors

So, you thought that you'd seen the last of the rumor season now that the trade deadline has passed?  Think again!  We're just getting started!  Now we must wait with baited breath for teams to negotiate buyouts with players they no longer want.  Then we get to convince ourselves that they are the perfect missing piece to our championship run.  Good times all around.

So here are some of the latest bits and pieces to report.

Updates: Marc Spears has a full column on this here.  Also, Bulpett mentions a few names here.

Source: Murphy leaning towards Celtics via NECN

The Boston Celtics have their sights locked on adding Troy Murphy. According to a source close to Murphy, the 6-foot-11 center feels the same way.

Twitter / @Marc J. Spears:

@warriors haven't waived big man Troy Murphy yet and source tells Y! there are a "lot of considerations" now. Translation? Maybe he stays.

Twitter / @Matt Steinmetz:

Murphy still to be bought out; hasn't happened yet. Regardless, hearing no chance he suits up for Warriors

Spears on Big Show: Powe wants to return

Powe wants to return to the team. "The Celtics are the front-runners for him. New York and the Lakers are also interested in him. Leon says his knees are fine and he can really help the team right now and he knows the system."

Star-divide

Twitter / @Marc J. Spears:

Wizards and new guard Mike Bibby are discussing a possible buyout, a source told Y! Sports.

Ian Thomson

Other buyout candidates include three-point shooters Rasual Butler and Jason Kapono; big men Joel Przybilla (who will be coveted by all the contenders if he is interested in continuing his career after being dealt to Charlotte) and Darius Songaila; defenders Jared Jeffries (who is expected to return to New York) and Leon Powe (who could return to Boston); and recent Knicks pickups Corey Brewer, Renaldo Balkman and Anthony Carter.

More to come.

I like the KP trade. But … the Semih trade will not work because we have a bunch of buyout rejects on the bench. I’ve never seen a team win a title with this much change in the lineup

So I’m half agreeing with this, lol

hmmm

i dunno you are right but i dunno delonte can play he showed that in the denver game i think kristic glen and green will compliment that being said they troy murphy is a good player can shoot iform deep and can rebound also you don’t lose rebounding ability in a year so i like him coming to us we only need 9 to 10 solid players by my count we have 9 solid players troy would make it 10 JO avery and von wafer don’t make it but von is a pretty good player to have at the ned of your bench he still has a lot of talent i hope they can get rip too that would be good that way theyd have 11 players and 3 very good end of the bnech type players just in case

Powe

If we get Powe out of all this, then at least we traded my second favorite Celtic for my favorite Celtic of all time.

We are going to get someone from Cleveland

Probably A. Parker, we need insurance for 3 position. Let’s try to get Camby, Dalambert or Murphy.

by greenSanDiego on Feb 25, 2011 9:15 PM EST reply actions

You think Camby will be available with Portland playing well and just starting to get back to health? We have Green to spell Pierce at 3 and also give minutes at 4. I think if RIP would be bought out he would help the most for the C’s. Detroit is a COMPLETE MESS THOUGH! WHO KNOWS? Wafer is quick but has NO lateral movement to play D. Nice to be able to spell Rondo more with West with no other pg besides an overwhelmed Avery Bradley and RIP would provide the minutes to do that at a real 2 man.

id like to add parker. so add him to jeffries and murphy and im happy. send bradley back to the D to continue his development cuz he wont play if we add them

Would really like to get Anthony Parker.

Cleveland just beat New York, even with Billups, Stoudemire and Anthony scoring close to 90 pts. between them.
Parker scored a very efficient 16 pts., was a +26 for the game, and as usual, was the defensive leader on the squad. He has a very high BB i.q., and is a versatile player. He would be great to spell Ray Allen, with West at point.

Offense should not stall as much with Green as a C.

Murphy would be a nice pickup, but I don’t expect him to be the player that he was in Indiana a couple years back. He could help stretch the floor and hopefully rebound a little. Not an athletic big man at all and I think that teams with bigs who can jump or have long arms will show that Murph cannot help Boston much with the boards. This is the scariest part with Perk gone, no help on the boards and MUCH weaker defensive presence.

by hilt.alh on Feb 25, 2011 9:18 PM EST reply actions

IF JO and SHAQ are healthy, Then I like our squad. We could use Bibby and Murphy to round it out. Green can play the 2/3/4 they have said. We will match up well with Heat/Knicks/Orlando and Bulls if we are healthy. Need some young legs in here though.

by Diggles on Feb 25, 2011 9:19 PM EST reply actions

No Thanks.

We don’t need Bibby. West is doing a fine job at point guard, for me. I really want the Celtics to get Murphy and another strong center to defend Dwight when Shaq isn’t allowed to play again because of the refs. I just hope Von will be consistent and not be Robinson V2.

by LancerQ on Feb 25, 2011 9:22 PM EST reply actions

Also, RIP would help us with that banner, a lot. I don’t see Powe being an impact player, but he might be able to help.

Waiting for the other shoe to drop

These buyout pick-ups had better be good or Danny’s trade could go down in infamy.

I love Perk, the work ethic, the defense, the toughness. It is a rare commodity in today’s NBA.

If the C’s can come close to replacing Perks Defense and rebounding with Camby or Sam Dam all may be forgiven.

I am also watching the Piston situation closely. they ran with only 6 guys tonight. A new coach may be in order but it could also lead to some buyouts that would turn this post trade situation into a winner.

I am hoping Danny foresaw something that will be pleasant surprise in the next few days.

Also

Would also like to add that Krystic would be great off the bench. He has allot of offensive skills….shoots a high percentage with range. Can find the open man as well as finish under the rim.

The problem with his game is his D…he can move his feet and rotate. Good IQ in that regard but does not have the intensity/vertical/strength to defend adequately in the post.

I think he will eventually be a favorite…just due to that he will be very efficient on the offensive end when teams double away from him. He can hit that 18 footer that Baby hits…he can get open as well as find the open man with a pass from the high post

Camby would give us another good rebounder to go with KG, and a good defensive center. And everyone knows we need help with that part of the game.

they had lack of depth at center before the traded pryzbilla. now they likely start aldridge at center with camby as a backup??? but i doubt camby leaves portland.

Any news on Dalambert?

He’ll be a good addition to the team. Another tall guy that could defend (at least better than Krstic). He’s a good shot blocker. Camby’s also a great addition but I don’t think he’ll be bought out.

by LancerQ on Feb 25, 2011 9:39 PM EST reply actions

I have not heard any new news on Dalembert...

Rumors are going both ways, some saying he will be bought out some saying he will not.

I have heard no direct rumors linking him with the C’s but he or even Camby would be a great additions to the C’s roster, if he is bought out and the C’s can acquire him.

VERY INTERESTING STATS

According to Basketball Reference:

Rasheed Wallace last year with Cs: 9pts, 40%FG, 77%FT, 4.1rebs, 22.4min.

Nenad Krstic with Thunder this year: 7.6pts, 49.8%FG,80%FT, 4.4rebs,21.7mins.

by Celticsdude on Feb 25, 2011 9:46 PM EST reply actions

add to that wallace’s many ill-advised threes and technical fouls and krstic’s chair tossing and you have a similar player statistically

by Celticsdude on Feb 25, 2011 9:54 PM EST up reply actions

thats cuz krstic shoots from 15 ft in

compared to 15 feet out from sheed

by remembering9ergods on Feb 25, 2011 9:56 PM EST up reply actions

so? I certainly did not enjoy rasheed shooting outside jumpers he couldn’t make. krstic has a reliable mid-range jumper.

by Celticsdude on Feb 25, 2011 9:58 PM EST up reply actions

i like sheed but took to many 3's even when he was missing

krstic wont be taking those. he brings a very nice mid jumper and some inside moves. he’s a good pick up but i wouldnt compare the two. when sheed wanted to he could dominate inside, krstic will go there sometimes but not often.

overall though, gives our bench more firepower

Happy to hear Murphy signing with the C's is getting closer to reality....

Murphy would be a great addition to the roster as he is versatile big man who can play both the 4 & 5 positions.
If he signs Murphy Danny has 2 more roster spots to fill.

With the health questions surrounding Shaq and J.O. , the loss of Perks interior defense and since Murphy and Krist are not great low post defenders I hope Ainge goes after another legit big man with strong defensive skills.

Dalembert, Camby or another player in there mold would be a great acquisition and would give the C’s extra depth in the frontcourt.

by fordescort on Feb 25, 2011 9:47 PM EST reply actions

id take murphy and jeffries if we could

jeffries is a nice defensive player who is capable of play all 5 positions and is 6’11. imagine the size problems we could cause if we wanted to.

murphys offense and rebounding would also help.

as much as i like powe, i want no part of him. he’s listed as being out with a knee injury again and has only played 14 games in 2 years. plus he hasnt grown any since he left.

Problem is he isn’t a scorer. With his height if he could just score, that’ll be a great matchup problem with other teams.

by LancerQ on Feb 25, 2011 9:55 PM EST up reply actions

he wouldnt need to score much, like tony allen

he’d be the “stopper”. imagine putting an athletic 6’11 guy on kobe, lebron, etc….

plus with the new offense off the bench he wouldnt have to shoot, we could post him inside, etc if we wanted to try and get points from him.

Murphy/Powe

From what I have been reading today those look like our most probable 2 pick-ups….Powe may be part two of the Erden/Harrangody trade (however he is coming back from yet another knee surgery??)…..Murphy will be a good rotation guy.

We have three spots…hopefully #3 is a Piston….Rip…. to run off those screens while Ray is getting a breather.

That still doesn’t fill the crater left by Perk…however lots of nice tools which will get us to the championship game…not sure if it is enough to win it after watching our squad get destroyed on the boards last year. Can’t see Shaq/Krystic/Jo/Murphy doing much to stop Gasol Bynum and Odom….

by winbos on Feb 25, 2011 9:56 PM EST reply actions

I agree. Murphy+Power+Rip would be great. I do think the Celtics can beat the Lakers because of their new ability to score. Rebounds will be an issue but they were also an issue with Perk (sorry but it’s true)

by Celticsdude on Feb 25, 2011 10:03 PM EST up reply actions

If healthy

I have full confidence in Shaq and J.O. capabilities to defend the like Gasol and Bynum if we meet them in the finals.

What I worry about is if they are not healthy, who will then guard those players.

Thats why Id like Ainge (even if Murphy is signed) to go after a another big man who has defensive skills to guard long, strong low post low post scorers like Bynum, Gasol and Howard etc.

If Shaq and J.O. (they are the key to making this all work out) can get healthy and Danny can make a few good smart acquisitions with the final 3 roster spots that along with the new additions to the bench of Green and Krstic it will give the C’s a deep, strong and potent bench.

Pryzbilla is one big tough dude and would give the C’s nice size and 6 physical fouls off the bench.

He also would add nice depth as a 3rd-4th string center off the bench and would offer meanness as you say and toughness that the C’s could use with the loss of Perk.

Agree 100%

With the health questions surrounding Shaq and Perk, Kristic and if Murphy is signed not being solid low post defending big men and the fact we no longer have Perk it would be nice for the C’s to add a legit center who can defend the bigger stronger centers like Howard and Bynum.

Any tough center with size, length and decent low post defensive skills like Dalembert, Camby or Pryzbilla etc. would be a nice acquisition to have on the bench to help defend the players mentioned above and would also offer more big man depth and insurance as well if Shaq and J.O. breakdown.

Imagine if we could get Joel Przybilla, troy murphy, and corey brewer… That would give us great depth throughout the whole lineup, and multiple candidates to attempt to fill in Kendrick Perkins place behind the o’neals,(if they ever do come back)

This will give us 2 rebounding centers, 6-11, and another 7 footer, which basically fills our height situation out considering perk was 6-10 and semih was a 7 footer…

I can now see the logic of the Perkins's trade,

but I still don’t get the Erden move. Why get rid of a young seven footer, who has skills, when you don’t have anyone to replace him with? Why not keep him as the last guy off the bench?

What is the chance of signing Perk in the offseason?

I mean, have we lost Perks Bird rights by trading him now and he is going to be a “common” free agent in the offseason?

OKC has his Bird rights now.

unfortunately, this is a business. I have seen great players, including Danny, being traded away.

I love Perk for his style and dedication, and will miss that scowl. BUT, it is the system that was built around these players’ strengths and weaknesses that made him as good as he is. It was his coaching, organizational environment that made Al Jefferson as good as he was, and now look at him. The Celtics are bigger than one guy, one team, one year. I think all of these new healthy, young legs and a SYSTEM built around them will take them further to 18 then the rice cake knees and ankles we had before these trades.

When do these new guys report for duty? HERE WE GO CELTICS HERE WE GO!!!!!!

I gotta say

tonight’s game with the Clippers will probably be the most anticipated Clippers game in Celtic’s history, Green and Kristic should be there and ready to go

Avery Bradley...

has to be sent down to the D and call up Mario West. West, at this point, is a better defensive player the Bradley.

That's what...

you and I and several other Celtic fan thought so, too.

Leon Powe

Sorry to come off as cynical, but I think if Ainge is really serious about bringing back Powe, a good chunk of the rationale might be as a goodwiil/lockeroom gesture to the players and help ease the pain of losing two of their most popular teammates. Just a thought.

I don't think DA will get Powe

Doesn’t make sense get rid of Semih and luke to end with a guy that hasn’t play in two years and injury prone.
