Sorry all you bleeding hearts, it was a great trade
The trade may turn out great, indifferent or bad in the long run, depending mostly on whether certain peeps can be resigned and injuries. EG: Perkins can't play (or well) this year because of lingering injuries and then in the off-season signs with Miami or Orlando. But barring injuries or resignings, this is why its a great trade:
Jeff Green is a vastly better 3 than KP. Jeff green is a much better 4 then KP. Jeff Green is a much better offensive 5 then KP. Jeff Green is (I think, KP seems to have improved a bit) a better foul shooter then KP. Jeff Green is much better then KP in that he is not getting dumb technical fouls. KP is a much better defender and screen setter then JG.
I loved Nate. His play was electric and he gave it everything he had! However, his basketball IQ rivaled that of the lately departed Tony Allen. How many games in the past month have you seen him - the leader of the bench - blow (and quickly) a ten point lead? Scenarios: Nate comes in, grabs a rebound, leads a fast break with two wing man and fires up a errant 3 pointer. Or, Nate comes in scrambles on the floor, gets a loose ball, starts the fast break and throws a bad pass out of bounds. Again, I loved watching him.
Nenad. I really don't know much about him....but.....Lawrence Frank certainly does and I'm sure he had his input. I have read he has a jump shot and I'm sure he can make layups as well or better then KP. Apparently his defense is fairly weak, not non-existent, but weak. I think it's reasonable to expect he can shoot Free Throws better then KP.
It appears that the majority of the readers on this blog, including our 'big guy' authors, oppose the trade. However, the two best minds that I read on this blog belong to MMMM and DRJ1 and I think they will mostly agree with me.
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

I don't think he Green would play the 5 position but
I somehow see the positivity in this trade (barring all emotional aspects). However, my assessment of this trade is incomplete since we haven’t really seen the new guys play with the team. Besides, it is most certain that some guys who will be bought out by other teams will soon join the team.
IMO, it is fair to judge this trade after March 1. And of course we’ll definitely see its success or failure come playoff time.

Adjustment period
I am sure Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic need some adjustments with the present set up as also the big 4 need to make some adjustments too. This will happen quickly and we will see this trade worthwhile. I see more positive to the trade. Of course, we will miss Perk.
True. I think the remaining games of the season or maybe for around 10-12 games could help them adjust.
Hopefully they will gel well with the team.

Great post untill this one...

The majority of us opposed to this trade cause perk was like a brother he grew up as a celtic member and we grew up with him.

Regarding Green's defense
I am somehow confident that he’ll play better D with the C’s. The guys in the past that the management brought in were not particularly good defenders, but the culture of this team changed their ways (reminds me of Ray Allen). I am expecting him to play D if he ever want to play significant minutes under Doc.

Why yall shouldn't panic
There can be MANY reasons as to why trading Perk is THE perfect solution/steal for the Celtics and there can also be many reasons as to why it’s the opposite.
Please look at this from the GM’s perspective. The guy didn’t want to sign the contract. Even though he wanted to stay in Boston, he still wanted to ‘TEST’ the Free Agency. The guy injured his right knee after 6-7 games. He’s had numerous shoulder problems. He saw how the team played when he was out. He saw the way Marquis went down. He saw how bad Nate can be as a starting / back up PG.
The Celtics played well and by well, I mean champion-caliber-type-well without Perk for how many games? They can still contend and not just contend, but win it all without Perk being the starting center.
We don’t even really know how he acted when the contract extension was discussed. We don’t really know the severity of the new and the old injury. Even though he looked ‘great’, we don’t know how well his body (esp his knees & shoulders) is going to hold up in the future.
I wouldn’t label this deal as a STEAL but hell, it makes sense. Our 5 spot can be filled with Shaq/Nenad/JO. If we pick someone else up (Joel, Murphy, Sheed, Dalembert, or WHEOVER), that’s fine also. Our greatest weakness was not having someone to back up PP. We can’t overplay him like he’s in his mid 20’s anymore. Having JG will absoutely help. Plus, JG would be starting for any other team. Him coming off the bench is like Lamar coming off the bench for the Lakers. We can also go small with him at the 4 and KG at 5. I’m sure he’ll be more effective than BDD when it’s all said and done.
To me, Danny looks like he knows what he’s doing. This Chris Johnson kid can be a surprise in a few years. For this season, he’s like the new Semih Erden. Nice to have off the bench. Our 3rd, 4th string to back up the 3rd/4th spot.
As long as Delonte doesn’t reinjure himself for whatever reasons, Our PG is set. Same with SG, Ray and Von along with Delonte should be good. PP and JG is great. Kevin/BDD/JG is great. Shaq should be and would be playing if the playoffs were to start today. Nenad & Chris Johnson with 12 fouls. Hopefully JO can play as many minutes as PJ Brown / Sam Cassell of 08.
We still can COMPETE. We can still play OUR D. We did just fine when Perk was out. If you think Nenad can’t be as good as Erden as a back up Center, you need to think again.
Stop with the ’WE ARE DONE. OMG WTF IS DANNY DOING AGAIN."
Yes it’s hard to lose someone who’s been with us for past 8 years, but this isn’t SHOCKING. Not to me at least. You hear’em say this all the time. In the end, it’s a business.
"I’m going to probably fade to black,’’ he said. "To be honest, I’m not a showman guy. I’m going to fade to black. I don’t know what I will do. I’m an idealist. I have a high drive and I’m very determined. Fade to black, man, like evaporate.’’
agree totally
Danny sees the Celts with a line up without Perk. Perk was out and the Celts were still atop the East. DA also sees both Shaq and JO healthy come playoff time. Jeff is really a good upgrade.
Liked the trade at once
per previous posts liked this move by DA – we finally have a long/athletice big at the 3 or 4, and a decent 7-footer who can score, but limited defense; lets face it Perk just could not jump and was a liab on off-his muscle in middle will be missed.
Does anyone believe or heard anything out of Cleveland ? Still believe that something is coming our way from Dan Gilbert after our trade there -he certainly would like to help us out to beat El BJ
Hard to take.
Just like the Cornbread trade that brought Bill Walton. Family is family and all those players that were traded were a part of the Celtics family, and will always be linked to the team. Let’s all hope that Green and Kristic will wipe away the negativity of losing those guys.

We don`t know if it was a "great" trade yet...
It possibly could be, based upon who Danny gets to fill those final 2-3 roster spots.
Perk
I’ll miss Pecules a ton but I see Ainge’s thinking. The Semi Hardon and Good’nHarry trade is baffling?
If you are going to Eagle, Colorado just get a massage.
I'm coming around to this
Krstic and Green were starters on a very good team last year, one that gave the Lakers a good series in the playoffs. They are both healthy, young, and experienced. We are adding them to our bench and what we’re losing is our second best center, who is injured.
I’d also like to point out that Jermaine O’Neal is expected to be back in early April. Perkins won’t see the floor again for the Thunder until mid-March. When healthy, Jermaine is the better player of the two. Are we so sure that Perkins has a better chance of being healthy for the playoffs than O’Neal?
I love Perkins, and I will be watching a lot more Oklahoma games now. I relish the intimidation factor and the downright nastiness that this version of the Celtics has had on the court, and that has been undoubtedly diminished.
The subplot that no one is talking about here is Nate Robinson. We all know that Nate was having a bad year, but aren’t we extremely vulnerable now at the point? Avery Bradley isn’t our guy, not this year, and we’ve been hearing forever that Delonte is strongest as a 2 backing up Ray. That means that it’s getting towards time for the heir to Sam Cassel’s mantle to make his appearance. TJ Ford, Baron Davis, and Mike Bibby are all out there but none have been connected to the Celtics.
The idea that Delonte West is the only guy besides Rondo who can bring the ball up makes me nervous. More nervous, in fact, than dropping two bangers in Perkins and Erden for a Krstic and a whole lot of prayer for men named O’Neal.
totally agree...
it all depends on the o’neals and the rest of the remaining roster spots, but…as it stands, this trade makes the celts deeper and more flexible. nobody really seems to be talking about how many minutes the starters were logging, the trade also also addresses this need. a tired ray, paul and kg are a recipe for disaster in the playoffs.
