first. i was wrong. i guess the team they had wasnt the team they would have going into the playoffs. but after the dust settled i like the trade. i think its a perfect set up for now and later. gives pierce value in the last years of his contract. gives the second unit another chip. with west, green, davis and kristic/shaq they now have 4 players who can average 10 points per game. thats 40 off the bench every game. the starters only have to come up with 60. ray, paul, kevin, shaq and rajon can do that in 1 half if rested and healthy.. lets see the spurs, heat, lakers, thunder, magic, knicks or the bulls do that. those teams rely on 3 players. if 1 of those players doesnt get it doen they lose.
i think bill simmons said it best. " I remember watching that same ugly jump hook over and over again, hoping beyond hope that it might get better. I remember winning a title with him, and I remember losing a title without him. I remember seeing him warm up before opening night, a good two hours before the game, almost as though he didn't want the team to forget that he was coming back. Like every other Celtics fan, I watched him go from nothing to something. I certainly never imagined watching Perk play for another team.... that's the way professional sports work. We are rooting for laundry. Whether we want to admit it or not."
by the way the 2013 draft might be interesting. the draft could feature a player that the staff knows very well.... AUSTIN RIVERS. could doc and danny be setting up a family gathering with out giving up this year. if the celtics have the clippers pick. (when are they not in the lottery? its only safe in the 2012 draft.) clevelands 2 round pick (i cant see a rookie coming in and making them a playoff team, if you can tell me who) and there own picks.(good chance they dont have the best record in the league after this year, depending on free agents and the health of the hall of famers) they would have 4 picks to try to use to get austin. OH!! AND, it could also feature a player who could be another franchise player. ANDRE DRUMMOND a center form CT. who will probably be playing in the big east in 2 years. with the players wanting the 1 year waiting rule to change, drummond could go right to the pros or wait. rivers and drummond could be an interesting draft debate. both are very good and the chances of landing on the same team are highly slim. but most said the same about green and durant. could the celtics get a good pick for baby after they win the championship this year? depends on the team. could they have a good chance to get both? probably not - both i would not put it past danny for thinking it.
i think JO doesnt return next year. he could pull a sheed and call it a career after this years play off run (when they win it all what else does JO need to play for?) he got paid, he got noticed with all star games, he isnt a hall of famer trying to pad his stats just to make sure he gets in. so danny could use his expiring contract as a trade chip. unlike what he did with sheeds. because i think they would have taken sheed back, i dont think they would take JO back.
with players like dwight howard. jj hickson, roy hibbert, brook lopez, derozan, gallinari, kaman, eric gordon possibly being available. a rondo, green, and the clippers draft pick player, along with a player(s) listed could lead to a great run. i wouldn't want hickson if they dont have drummond but he could be a good addition if they lose out on howard or other bigs. i would love to see rondo, green and gordon if no howard. then draft and develope the bigs. or trade the picks for the big. would atlanta give horford for some picks at that time. rondo, gordon, green, horford!
