This is so irritating
He should have had the surgery at the beginning of the season. I would not count on anything from him, and the way Danny sounded, the surgery will not fix the long-term arthritis issue. Wish they could cut him tomorrow. What a Waste of money.
That was sneaky...
I thought Ainge said they were resting the knee and building strength up in J.O.’s legs to keep stress of his knee?
Ainge did mention in his comments tonight (as I assumed in the past) that one of the issues that is causing J.O.s knee problem is a bone to bone condtion due to arthritis.
Hope the surgery goes well though and we see J.O. back in time for the stretch run heading into the playoffs.
He admitted that last we knew he was going to rehab
But the knee would not heal enough to begin rehab and that if the procedure was not done now there would be no chance of return.
Not really sneaky, just rolling with the punches, maybe a little sneaky.

As a matter of fact, the Celtics just might be willing to pay you big money to sit out 6 to 8 weeks...
… if you could significantly help their chances to win another title this spring. Who have you played for? And what kind of stats have you put up in the past?
thats a lit bit different
i think Yao at least helps the rockets to earn $ from the chinese market. But whos still a big JO fan nowadays?

I really wanted to give him the benefit
I wanted to stick up for him,and be behind him as a celtic. I would have rather him take the surgery months ago. So he would be back in time to get in the rotation and ready for the playoffs. Of course guys we can’t just cut him. We are paying him too much, and he’s got a second year on his contract. Nobody will take this guy in a trade. So what do we do? All I know is. Why be loyal to this guy? He’s barley played as a celtic. He came in out of shape. He should have gotten surgery months ago. Like I said it would be costly to waive him,but if the C’s are serious on winning banner 18,and we need depth at the Center or Forward spot. Will he play anyway during the playoffs no,but what if Shaq goes down,or anyone. If Sheed wants to come back. Bring him back, and take the loss off your payroll if your serious about 18. Jermaine won’t be ready to be a impact. Sheed was not the issue last year. Did help in the regular season no,but he played 79 games last year, and played hurt in the regular season. He will be fresh, and if he has played basketball then great. On the other hand. Erden has played much better this year than Jermaine anyways. So we either just suck it up,and see what if on Jermaine. We also don’t know if sheed wants to come back. That’s all what if’s anyways. J.O will more than likely be a bust, He will of only have played around 20 or so games if he does come back in April. He’s only played 17 so far this year. He really did get over paid. He’s worth half of the Full vets min. That’s being kind, but Danny did what he had to I guess. Jermaine is a write off for me at this point.
If he's got any heart
He will take from Perk, and be back strong in four weeks. Or back in six weeks, and ready to play.
You think 6-8 weeks is bad.....
….he’s been resting the entire season! LOL I wish I could get a job that pays me $6M annually by doing nothing.
How do you think shaw feels. He’s getting paid scraps compared to jo

6-8 weeks?!
That’s basically the entire the season. And after the surgery is done wouldn’t J.O. need months of rehab?
Where's Rasheed?
I think it would be a mistake if Ainge holds on to JO. The trade deadline nears try and get another forward. How about Rasheed, if that rumor is true about him wanting to return.

Makes you wonder if JO could get bought out...
Unless they think JO will be able to contribute in the playoffs, seems to me that he’s now the likely candidate for a buyout, assuming that someone worthwhile is available to be picked up. Even Gody and Bradley seem more likely to contribute than JO, unfortunately.
I’ve wondered about a ’Sheed return since… oh, about a half-second after his announced retirement.
A lot of anger on here towards O'neal
Some posters even imply that he purposely waited to get surgery. Why would he do that? This isn’t like someone scheduling surgery in order to purposely miss training camp.
It seems to me like he really wanted to play and contribute so any anger directed at him should be directed at Ainge for making a signing that appeared unwise to many people even back when it was made.
Perkins is doing great. Shaq fell into the team’s lap basically for pennies and has played very well. Erden has also exceeded probably anyone’s expectations and might be the best third string center in the league. Jermaine was probably looking at less than 10 minutes a game during the playoffs anyway. Not a big deal even if he doesn’t come back.
Also why would he agree to a buyout? Wouldn’t benefit him at all.
nobody says that he's leave much (if any) money on the table
C’s might decide that they’d bite the bullet and basically pay JO his salary for the rest of this season and next, so they can get an open roster spot. C’s wouldn’t be doing it to save money, they’d be doing it for a roster spot. Depends on how badly they think they need another player. Could be a wink-wink, nudge-nudge that they’d resign him at the vet minimum next season (if that’s allowable).
Read the stories -- It seems everyone wanted him to have surgery earlier, but he did not want to
That is what is the most irritating thing about this situation. I have given the guy the benefit of the doubt all year, but no longer. He has wasted the Celtics’ time and money and it would be great if they could just get rid of him now and find another big body.
I just dont think he knew how bad it was.

Just so you guys know..
6-8 weeks at this point could mean mid March to early April. Still a lotta time to be out, but if JO can infact come back after that, then maybe, just maybe, he could be ready for the playoffs.
Which is all that we really need him for at this point, anyways, no matter how you want to spin it. If he can play in the playoffs and provide the 10-15 min he was expected to anyways (if there’s even that many minutes for him behind Perk and Shaq), then we’ll be better off for it.
If he comes back in early April, that would leave 8 regular season games to play
How will that allow him to get into shape and really contribute in the playoffs? Cut the losses now.
