Kendrick Perkins Ain't Walking Thru That Door

I'm sick, sick of all the negativity around this town. Kendrick Perkins ain't walking thru that door; Nate Robinson ain't walking thru that door...and thankfully Rick Pitino isn't walking thru that door either. Danny Ainge is a great GM and with a little luck, the Celtics will win Banner 18 this year. Oh, by the way, they're also positioning themselves to make a run a big name free agent in two or three years.Did Danny take a chance with the recent trades and moves? Yes. Is there a guarantee the Celtics will the title this year, or even make it out of the East? No. But there's no guarantee that Celtics would have won if they had stayed pat. Many folks have already written at great length about the Celtics shortcomings and strengths pre-trade, so I'll just list them here: Weaknesses 1. Center. Perk struggled to catch and finish near the hoop, and he had no other offensive game. Perk was not a great leaper, rebounder or shot blocker for his size. He's been injured in past (shoulder, knee) and was injured again (other knee). 2. No back up 3 3. No back up 2 (shooter) 4. No back up point Strengths 1. Teamwork, chemistry, bond. They worked together on Defense, knew the system, could get stops when mattered. 2. Perk could play Howard and Bynum straight up, without help. Failed to mention in either of above: Baby almost always finished games at the 5 instead of Perk because he is a better offensive player (and foul shooter). So Baby, not Perk guarded Howard, Bynum, et al at the end of games. Results of trade: Celtics now have addressed ALL of the weakness listed above. 1 They now have a center with great hands who can catch and score around the rim. Krstic also is has an effective mid range jumper to pull put opposing centers and open driving lanes. 2. C's have a talented back up 3 in Green, who can also okay some 4 3. C's have a back up 2 in Pavlovich, who is also a hard nosed defender 4. C's have a competent back up point in Arroyo. Previous strengths: It takes time to developed chemistry and teamwork, and unfortunately the C'c must attempt to build it quickly, on the fly, without benefit of practice time. It remains to be seen whether Doc, Frank and the vets can reassemble a great team this year. Baby and Delonte are coming back soon. That will help immensely because with Baby, we'll have the 'finishing five," from the last few years, and the end of game defense will be intact. When Shaq comes back, we'll have the 'starting five" that earned the Celtics the best record in the East (second best in League) through the first 30 games. It's always a gamble, whether a team stay stats pat or tries to improve. In this case, I think the C's are a much improved team on Paper. We'll just gave to wait to see whether they have the time to put together a team on the court that wins it all this year. Banner18 on some boards Now Celticsbanner on Twitter
