Paul Pierce Named Player Of The Week
Celtics captain Paul Pierce has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Pierce guided injury-depleted Boston to four wins last week, averaging 21.8 points on 58.7 percent shooting (27 for 46) from the floor.

Funny
Remember how many people here were blaming Pierce for the Celtics woes before McHale donated KG. Go, PP.
I hate I told you so's too
but to Raef’s point I still hear people who get on PP to this day… if at this point you don’t realize what a special player we have then you are missing out on greatness.

He absolutlety willed the celts to victory last night
Tha Captain still sets the tone for the club.
If it wasn't for the sub-par game vs GSW, KG would've been player of the week..
But that’s just me..
people will always say how garnett’s d is so integral to this team, and ray’s shooting opens things up, but neither of those Two or Rondo for that matter can do what paul does. the best teams need someone who can gunsling when the other team’s best player is slingin’. in game 7 of the semis in 08 we all knew (before we knew lebron better) that lebron was going to come out with a GAME like he had against the pistons the year before. and paul pierce met him there and held his ground. no other celtic could have done that.
if you were to tell me that it is game seven and that the opposing teams player is gonna go OFF then i would choose paul pierce as my horse to turn the tides. my favorite player of all time.
Each of the 'Big 4' has a special role
and Paul Pierce’s role is just as vital as any of them.
The beautiful thing about the Celtic’s ‘Big 4’ is that they are so complementary and each does HIS role at an elite level that is practically impossible to replace short of kidnapping a superstar from another team.
Paul Pierce provides incredibly diverse offense that none of the others can provide in one package. Not many players in the league can provide the combination of power slashing, ball-handling, precise fadeaway jumpers, dagger 3PT shooting and of course, post-up play that Pierce does.
KG is clearly the leader of the defense. And Rondo is the quarterback of the offense. Ray is like that elite, quick-strike wide receiver that no one can cover, whether on short crossing patterns or deep fly routes.
Pierce is the do-it-all 3-down running back who touches the ball 40 times in the game, carrying the team on his back in whatever way needed. Runs the ball. Catches the ball. Hell, even throws the ball if needed.
He’s The Captain.

Excellent Post
What is great about this team and especially the 4 mentioned above is that they all understand what you mention and accept their responsibilities. It is also well understood by everyone that PP is “The Truth” and the Captain. I really thought, and I never saw it mentioned, that when KG and Ray came on they would be tri-captains, but there was never public mention of this and Pierce remained the Captain. It would be interesting to know if this was ever discussed.

The Captain
I notice that since the trade and the initial reaction of everyone, including the players, that Pierce has been fresh at the end of games. The same could be said for KG. I think Jeff Green has played a big part in this. I think Green can learn alot from Pierce and in the future can develop similar skills. Rondo is the one guy I really worry about now. He really needs help from Arroyo and DWest. Now Ray, Ray could probably play 48 minutes, take a 20 minute break and come back for 48 more. But with that said Ray often seems to have lost his legs late in the 4th quarter. He too now seems fresher at the end.

Once we get West, Wafer & Arroyo
on board and active, along with Sasha, we’ll finally be able to rest Ray and Rondo more.
