Doc in our forseeable future?
So, the trade deadline has come and passed with the Celtics making quite a few moves. Our backups have changed and we have a new breath of players entering the Celtics system. It is great for the Celtics to try to place ourselves in the best position to win, but what will happen if Doc leaves at the end of this season. He has already made multiple statements saying that he wishes to retire after this year to work, and see his own son play basketball. All the power to him for wanting to spend more time with his wife and kids, but what will we do when he leaves. Will Lawrence Frank, make a splash as a head coach with the Celtics? probably not even though the guy knows basketball. Its hard to imagine Doc leaving after this season even if we win 18.
So i guess my question to other fans is who would be a good choice and why? what do they bring to the table that exudes what it means to be a Celtic. It is understood the Celtics like to promote from within but who really on the current staff has the ability to coach a game like Doc? We need someone who fits into our TEAM system and isn't going to try to change what we have been so successful at.
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Rondo is gonna be our coach. Lol jk. Idk I think Frank can be a good coach but I rather have a Celtic Legend come and coach. It’s a strech but still I’d love to see Bird come to coach.

"He has already made multiple statements saying that he wishes to retire after this year to work"
This is untrue. He’s said, like he says almost every year that he’s not even thinking about it and only focusing on this year. He will decide about his future after talking to his family over the summer, like he did last year.
Mentioning that he wishes he had more time to watch his son play and spend time with his family, doesn’t mean he wants to retire.

I have a feeling Mr. Rivers is going to be down in the record books as the oldest coach to retire.
He is being tempted by offers by Riley
I read somewhere early this season that the Magic wants him. Riley also signified that he wants Doc to coach the Heat. IMHO Doc really is a true green celtic and will continue to be our coach next year
Doc has said, if he coaches next year, it will be the Celtics.
He’s flat out said he will not Coach any team next year other than the Celtics.
It’s either, Coach the Celtics, or retire. There isn’t any other option, according to him.
Of course, that doesn’t rule out him taking a 1-3 year hiatus, then coming back and coaching another team. Just that, it won’t be next year.

It will be a sad day when Doc decides he’s had enough in Boston. He is my favorite Celtic coach of all time. Its not just wins and losses, but the x’s and o’s out of timeouts and his unwaivering commitment to defense first and team basketbal that makes him great. Next time you watch Lebron dribble out the last ten seconds of a close game and force a wild shot, think of how lucky we are to have a coach that dictates and presents options. People can nit pick all they want but he is a class act who respects the game, treats everyone with respect and is clearly in command of his team.
