I was happy when DA loaded up with JO and Shaq in the offseason because like all in Celtic nation I knew that the one advantage the Fakers had over us was their length, and with these new signings coupled with Shaq's competition with Kobe we would get an edge over them in their area of strenght. My only reservation was how would our big guys co-exist, especially with Perk's looming return in what was at the time thought to be 'February', and Shaq's well chronicled problems at various stops after the Lakers.
Doc was saved from tough choice of a starter early on when JO went down with injuries, so Shaq was tapped at the starting position without much ado, but the return of Perk still loomed, and was complicated further by Shaq's stellar contribution as a starter.
My reservation got some support when media sources reported that Perk, while he was rehabing from his surgery, stated that he would be the starter when he returned. Therefore, how much was the trade about not upsettng the chemistry that had been set with Shaq as a starter? Would Shaq have accepted relegation to the bench to accomodate Perk?
Doc, at least, was saved another gut-wrenching decision by the trade of Perk, or was he?
