Celtics Working On Multi-year Deal With Doc Rivers
Sure sounds more and more like Doc is coming back and perhaps for a long time.
Source: Multiyear deal to keep Doc Rivers in green - BostonHerald.com
A person with knowledge of the negotiations says the Boston Celtics [team stats] and coach Doc Rivers are working on a deal that would keep him on their bench for multiple years. The deal is for "more than two or three years," the person told The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the details were still being worked out.
Danny shed some light on Doc's attitude.
WEEI: Ainge reflects on season, future
"If there comes a time where our goal change in a year or two, where the goal is to make the playoffs, I think Doc would welcome that challenge too. He knows that every year of your career, you can't be fighting for an NBA championship.
"I think he likes the idea of being a Jerry Sloan type coach and being with a franchise for a long time."
Works for me.

Good deal for everyone
As much as I would rather be rooting for the Celtics moving into the next round, it is good to know they will have one of the best coaches in the league running the show for years to come. His basketball knowledge is excelllent, and although not perfect he is a perfect fit for this team. If we can make the right adjustments over the next couple of years, C’s fans will have a chance to root for a very competitive team for years to come.
doc is the cog that makes the machine tick -
- if he left, all would topple after -
i am SO thankful that he is staying, i think he’s truly an excellent coach
.
Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk
Doc is one of the best coaches we've seen in decades
It would be a great thing to keep him with this franchise for years to come, especially during the transition of the big three era to the Rondo era. I welcome the idea.
Doc = Celtics tradition.
SAVE THE PLANET. GO GREEN!

This is awful news...
As i have said before, I dont feel the players listen to doc anymore and im just tired of him and his awful lineups… oh well i guess if they are going in rebuilding mode it doesnt matter as much as long as he doenst stick around too long… i really hope i dont have to wait another 21 years for another celtics run :(

good for doc, if he gets the deal-also good for the c’s. the c’s need some changing but not in management. they need young blood on the floor. this years’ team was gritty but too many injuries- a lot of them because they were old. i hope they keep ray too.
That's ridiculous
Plenty of people would want him
Doc needs to alter his style somewhat
Not sure Doc is the coach the Celtics want when it’s time to rebuild. His reliance on playing veterans too many minutes definitely is a hindrance to developing younger players.
Well I hope if Doc does stay long term, that he brings in someone to help with the offense and that has a few new plays. Don’t want to see another season of collapsing down the stretch in so many games because of a failure to score…
Rivers went on to dismiss the idea that this in any way resembles last season's sleepwalking through the final months of the regular season (when star players were shut down due to injuries, leading to multiple late-season losses).
"Nothing like this," said Rivers. "Last year I shut them down. They were injured. They’re not injured. They’re not playing well."
this...
i think doc relates well to players and is very likeable, however i am not sold on his x’s and o’s and his rotations are terrible.
That's good news.
But what I didn’t like is that he didn’t try using Troy Murphy instead of Davis in the Playoffs.

Murphy who?
Even though he has some size advantage, he was totally awful in the regular season, so why would Doc play him in the playoffs?
We shall never go down without the hardest fight, the fight of a Champion
I could almost memorize what quarter Doc would play the veterans and rest them
It seems like it was a routine. He needs to be more flexible in who we are having a game with and be able to feel if it’s an off night for our veterans then make necessary adjustments. KG was not taken out when he was shooting 1 out of 10, that’s questionable. Having chemistry with the Big 3 and Rondo is there, but he needs to trust his bench more.
Doc, with the new contract
… please also bring along a new offense system because the current one hasn’t been working on a consistent basis for quite sometime, especially in big games.
Well.....As was proven before Thibodeau was hired....
-You’d also have to bring along a new defense if Frank gets a head coaching job .
