Putting together a good team means getting Dwight in 2012
With Nenad Krstic signing with a team in Russia, the Celtics will need a starting center more than ever. Jermaine O'neal sounds like the guy for the job. But he'll only play half the season knowing his health history. Should the Celtics re-sign Troy Murphy and give him a training camp to learn the system? I think they should. If JO gets injured, they could start Murphy at Center (he did play at Center in Indiana). If they won't start Murphy, they should sign DeAndre Jordan and start him. Also, sign Jamal Crawford for the MLE (the guy wants about 10 million, but does he want to win or get some money?). They should just sign Jordan for about 6-7 million, not the MLE. Re-sign Jeff Green and Delonte West.
That gives them a good title-contending team. Paul Pierce, Jermaine O'neal, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett at the starting 5.
Their bench helped them win a title in 2008 but they were different players, they were James Posey, PJ Brown, Eddie House and Sam Cassell. In the upcoming year, they'll have new members on the bench (if this works out). Troy Murphy, DeAndre Jordan, Jeff Green, Jamal Crawford and Delonte West.
That's another team's starting lineup on our bench. Jamal Crawford, however, has to dedicate himself more to winning than money. Same with Jordan. Don't forget, we also have the 25th pick. And if Jordan doesn't come, sign a 7-footer.
With this kind of team, Dwight will seriously consider going here. Especially if this team wins a title.
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

why does evyone think we can just "get" deandre jordan?
he’s a restricted FA so clippers can and will match ANY offer we can give him (our top offer would be $5.6m if the CBA doesnt do away with the CBA, then our top offer would be $1.3m). he’s already a starting center and plays next to two good young players in griffin and gordon why leave other than more money which he wont get here?
as for howard, id love to get dwight. rondo, dwight, green, pierce, would be a heck of a start to a team and other players would want to follow. that being said, i just dont see how the celtics get it done without a 3rd team getting involved in a trade (team 3, boston, orlando).

There are people that think we can just "get" dwight howard too
Some people over value our tradeable players/assets. I agree the clippers would match the full mid level exception if we can even offer it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they matched a lot more than that from other teams, or atleast do a sign and trade with a team that has more assets. Jamal Crawford, Deandre Jordan, and Dwight Howard: if we can get any of them we should do it without hesitation, IF.
crawford
he wants a long term contract too. dont think danny would give him the money or the years he wants.

Forget the whole topic.
The new CBA is going to be brutal and we’ll be lucky if we can keep Green.
Do not expect much this off season.
I agree, here are some numbers
NEXT SEASON
If there is a next season, it is going to be almost impossible to bring in enough talent to back the older guys. When the new CBA is set we will already be over the cap. Between Pierce, Allen, Rondo, Jermaine, KG, and Bradley you are already looking at $64,377,513. How can we afford to ad anyone that could actually give us the help we need?
I dont think that number includes Green’s $5,908,641 qualifying offer. So we will not be able to afford a great free agent.
2012-2013
There is already $29,421,145 tied up in the 2012-2013 season sure we could afford Howard but we wouldnt be able to get enough help with what would be left. Lets say we get lucky and the new CBA is a 55 million hard cap. Lets just say we do get Howard at 18 million per season (yeah right) you ad that 18 to what is already tied up in 2012-2013 thats over 47 million for just 4 players. Now what if it does end up being the 45 million hard cap that has been put on the table, if it sticks that pretty much takes us out of the running for Howard. Its nice to dream big, but reality just isn’t on our side.

We probably wouldn't be able to offer howard 18 mil.
If, like you say, the hard cap will be 45 mil, then the max contract will also be lowered to probably less than 18 mil a year. However i do agree that that wouldn’t leave us enough cap room to sign other serviceable pieces.
Adding to the Celtics!
I agree with building the bench back up, no doubt about it. If we can’t get D. Howard now, then lets sign Baron Davis to back up Rondo, get Eddie House back and go and Gregg Oden ( being around Kevin Garnett will do wonders for this kid),. Make it happened Danny Ainge, make it happened!

he said last season when asked that he wants to play for the heat
i cant see them saying no to him for the MLE, he gives them one of the things they are missing.
i also expect them to dump bibby and pick up tj ford
