Why does anyone think that Jermaine O'neal should start?

Why anyone thinks Jermaine should start is a mystery to me. I'm glad hes coming back for his second year, but no way should a 35 year old be our starting center. I definetly like him off the bench but thats it. Danny Ainge has got to get his starting Center from elsewhere than the organization right about now. If we could trade for him, I think Chris Kaman would be an excellent center for the next couple years while the C's groom a young guy or try to get Dwight or whatever.

Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

he did.

and that’s him only playing defensively and rebounding. If he became part of the offense, getting a few post ups which he’s really good at he’ll be more effective in the offense. I hated the fact that Doc reduced him to being the guy who sets picks. This man can finish with both hands. He may not be as quick as before but that post moves are still there, use it.

Good with limits

JO cannot play big minutes throughout the entire season. He needs to be at that 20-25 mpg and get some nights off. It is fine if he starts and finishes games, but we do need someone that rebounds ABOVE the rim on the team. KG is strictly a defensive rebounder and it would be great to have somebody (anyone but BBD) to get those O rebs and not get it sent back on the follow up. Kamen is slow, slow, slow on D but has a nice midrange and back to basket post up. Liability to the C’s defense probably would not be worth it. Dalembert would be great, but will cost too much for the C’s. Tough situation next season. Ray could be a great bargaining chip to get a big to move foreward. Anybody think about javale mcgee….big if, but would fit nicely and vets would get his head out of his ass

He is the only center on the roster

I think thats why most assume he will start. I have accepted the fact that next season( if there is a next season) will be another one where we are hurting at that position. Too much money is tied up in the guys that are left on the roster, and no way the Cs can afford a good starting center out of the free agency. I wish they could work something out and get Chandler I dont think Dwight Howard is worth waiting and praying for. More or less the money just isnt there and we dont have much to offer in a trade. Ray or Rondo could be traded but they wouldnt bring us enough to send them somewhere. Jermaine get the starting job by default. Dont worry someone else will start at some point no way O’neal plays every game. The thing I want to see more than anything next season is no one dealing with a serious injury.

"He is the only center on the roster"

Yep. Until further notice, he’s the starter.

instead of who?

It’s not that easy to trade Chris Kaman for JO. The salaries won’t match. So who do the Celtics start?

by Yoki R on Jun 15, 2011 12:47 PM EDT reply actions

the Clippers would not want J.O.

Jeff Green would be the only player on the Celtics that the Clippers
would be interested in. Sign and trade Green for Kaman? Then
we don’t have a backup for Pierce. The Celtics are in a tough situation.

I think Dalembert would be the best fit for now. Rumors are that Dalembert
is going to Miami. If he does go to the Heat, then they gain a major advantage
over Boston. Something the Celtics can ill afford.

I don't think he's 35

He’s 32, going to be 33 in october.

My bad, I thought he was older.

I’m not anti jermaine, I just want a younger dude at center.

It seems as if....

people have forgotten just how injury-prone this man is? he can’t handle big minutes in his current condition, and I’ve already mentally prepped myself to deal with him being unavailable for half of the regular season if not some of the playoffs. the celtics organization knows that they need a younger starter at the 5. and lets not be fools, we are TOTALLY getting dwight next year. stay optimistic haha … unless he wins a ring with orlando by some divine miracle

Rondo ftw

Sheesh. He's the only center on the roster right now.

Thus, by definition he has to be considered ‘the starter’.

The team has 8 open roster slots right now (assuming they sign Green). That means that there is just a tiny chance Danny will add another center or two by the fall.

Let’s worry about who should start then, okay?

And Jermaine will be 33 next season, not 35.

NBA Officiating - Corrupt? Incompetent? Which is worse? Does it matter? It sucks.

What makes you think that JO will stay healthy enough to start any number of games? He is a walking dissability. He should hang his tennis shoes and stop “milking” his salary.
