Why Trade Ray?

I've read lots of articles about what the celtics should do the Summer and I keep hearing people say the we should Trade Ray. I've mostly heard people saying we should trade Ray for Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer, there not even as good as Ray Combined. Also When I read an Article on Bleacherreport.com about how the c's can get younger on of the things was to trade ray. I mean thats just not a good Idea. Some please tell Danny to not trade and extend his contract before Danny desides to trade him. This is my Idea on what to do during the summer.

Star-divide

1. We need to get a lock down Defender or good defender that can guard Lebron,Wade,Kobe,Melo,Dirk,Durant during the Playoffs. That can play the 2 and the 3. I'm saying this cause we dont have Tony Allen or Marqiuse anymore but this year Wade and Lebron Destroyed us. The Player I think would be best for us would be Corey Brewer. He will be a perfect fit in my opinion.

2. We also need a Center. I think we should try getting DeAndre Jordan,Chris Wilcox,or Possibley Nazr Mahammad.

3.Sign and trade Big Baby and Troy Murphy for Josh Smith or Nene.

                                                                                                                            Thanks

2 average players for a hall of famer...

yeah, that sounds like a good deal. Ray isn’t too old that he’ll have to retire soon. I wouldn’t be surprised if he retires when he’s 38 or something. You are talking about trading one of the best shooters of all time for a sub par Marquis and Garcia. Do you have any idea of much that will mess up the team’s chemistry?

by SyFy on Jun 7, 2011 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions

Quis is familiar with the Cs and provides smoooooth basket cuts+ he was getting better behind the arc

Garcia provides all out D off the bench. Pierce moves to 2 and Green goes 3.

Guys, Ray out of his prime and he will be DONE in about a year or so. And I want to rebuild our team b4 we get nothing.

Out of his prime?

Big men lose their skills/lift when they’re out of their prime.
High Flyers lose their hops.
Shooters never lose their shooting.
Ray gives us 20-30 points if he takes 15 shots.
He’ll give us 40-50 on 25 or more shots. Let’s hope they give him 20-25 shots when PP is struggling.
Heck, I think Ray could give us 15-20 points at age 38!!!!

Pierce can't play the 2

He’s slow. He can’t handle opposing 2 guards the entire game.
I agree Ray is out of his prime, but he’ll be done when he says it’s done. Until then, he’ll provide us with as much scoring as he can get. The only reason he’s not averaging so many ppg is because he’s not athletic enough to create a shot against today’s defense. He will never lose his shot – Ray, btw, knows the Celtics’ playbook better than Marquis, Is one of the most humblest players in the nba, and is very loyal to his cause. No right minded Celtic would trade somebody like Ray for 2 average players. You’re overrating Garcia on his defense. He’s not a Tony Allen. Marquis is 30 and his athleticism will decrease. Ray’s 35, and he still has one of the smoothest shots if left open.

We almost certainly are NOT going to be trading Ray anytime soon.

Ray controls his destiny for the moment because he has a player option for next year.

Unless he wants to go somewhere else, we can’t just trade him because he could decline the option and become a free agent. And he has a ton of reasons to want to stay in this area, from his son’s med care to his wife’s TV show.

Stranger things have happened, but I would think the chances that Ray goes somewhere else to be between slim and none.

Once we are into the season, if the season does not go well. I could envision some scenarios in which Ray’s expiring contract gets traded, but probably with a understood buyout arrangement.

Ray doesn’t have player option next year. He does have this year (2011-2012) \ which he already signed and also could mean he’s not going anywhere. If he was, he wouldn’t have picked the option up.

in my post 'next year' meant '2011-2012' which, last I checked was 'next year'

especially since I wrote that before the 2010-2011 season was complete.

ray needs to stay

he may just need a position change. I would love it if Ray Ray would be our 6th man. The start would be
RR
Truth
Jgreen
KG
JO
bench
Ray Ray
Bradly
Dwest(hope)
T Murphy(can and will play better. either here or somewhere else, why not here)
FA 5/4
FA 3 defence (T battier is one of those)
1st Round draft pick
maybe 2nd or bench filler

Then Ray can come in when JO needs a breather and run Rage, RayRay,PP, JGreen & KG.

Pierce can't play the 2

He’s undoubtedly a great player, but he’s slow and not athletic enough to run with opposing 2 guards.

by SyFy on Jun 8, 2011 11:06 AM EDT up reply actions

Sorry but..

There’s no way the Hawks would trade Josh Smith for Glen Davis and Troy Murphy. And I’m also pretty sure the salaries wouldn’t match up to get Nene. Out of all the possible free agent Centers Nene is probably the least likeliest to go to the Celtics.

But if this WERE to happen...

Josh Smith and Rondo played in high school together. They already know each other very well, and the chemistry could fit right in. I hope Danny can somehow find out a way to get him.

by SyFy on Jun 8, 2011 11:07 AM EDT up reply actions

Corey Brewer

Tall and athletic and solid on and has total desire to play defense (or at least when i saw him play in Florida a few years ago) would be a great fit. He’s so lengthy for his position he’ll give most SG’s a lot of hard time. But how do we get him? Would Dallas be okay for a future draft pick and whatever the C’s have right now besides the Big 4? Certainly would not give up Baby/Jeff Green just for him too (provided they resign). But i think he’ll be a great defensive asset of the bench.

I have an answer for you

Bleacher Report sucks. They have no credibility, their opinions are often off, its just a bad bad reference

Would help

Sign Nene or Chandler then make cuts or trades …… Big Baby and Wafer also maybe Bradley and make effort to sign Marcus Thornton so Allen can come off bench…..

by juanpan on Jun 8, 2011 9:55 PM EDT reply actions

Definitely should not trade ray, can't get equal value

If we trade him for a decent young 10 million a year player he won’t be as good as Ray, or help the chemistry on and off the court. His shooting provides spacing, and he’s a leader. This team already had it’s chemistry tested so many times let’s leave it alone. Big baby+troy murphy for josh smith would be awesome, but I don’t think the hawks would want either of them and Josh Smith has a lot of value.

Marcus Thornton better shooter than Old Man Ray ….get real need scorers also much younger at that price ………. or less …..

by juanpan on Jun 11, 2011 11:07 PM EDT reply actions

Tyson Chandler proved he was money in the finals

Based on his performance…. I doubt Dallas will let him go and will work hard to keep him… But he is young and talented… 2 things the Celtics lack… young and talented (exception Rondo)… I love our guys… but they are past their prime…
