favorite moment?

right after he was drafted and we all thought Danny had a steal in the draft.

After that it just went downhill.

really? I dont see it that way at all

Gerald helped us get a super star player. Complete success on Danny’s part.

Summer league dunk that got everyone excited about his athleticism…then we realized he couldn’t do much else and was a box of rocks between the ears.

by DJlives on Aug 5, 2011 8:41 AM EDT reply actions

Maybe you don't remember, but he literally carried out team for a few months

We didn’t win many games, but he was one of the few players producing something.

agree

was so excited that he fell to us in the draft, and when I saw that summer league dunk i was hooked as a gerald green fan

by Benjamin Barak on Aug 5, 2011 8:50 AM EDT reply actions

Definitely the Summer League dunk. He was hailed as a great athlete with a 40 inch plus vertical so to first hear about him dunking over a guy in a game was exciting. Seeing the dunk later, I wasn’t as impressed because it was mostly some dude trying to take a charge and then Green posterizing him but still.

There were lots of calls to trade Pierce, I remember that.

My most positive memory of Green was before he became a Celtic. It was from the McDonald’s game and he came in as the top-ranked player and killed it. He looked smooth and his jumper was effortless. He looked can’t-miss. As it turned out, he was a bad ball handler, which negatively affected his game in multiple ways and his understanding of basketball was underdeveloped.

Never "Got It"

Athletic and talented, but just never got the message or didn’t want to. He had the potential to be a very good, not great? player.

Gerald Green & Sean Williams....poster boys who "blew it"!

Both born in 1986…in Houston…with a ton of talent
Both gone from the NBA at 23

Do I get a TP?

Every G$ moment was my favorite. He was the “Human CB Controversy.”

He lasted about as long as the cupcake he blew out on the Dunk Contest

and he had the brains of a thin layer of cupcake frosting…..

that cupcake dunk is still the best one i've ever seen -

- to have the grace, poise, athleticism, and lungs to be able to do that was stunning -

- i think he lost that year to dwight and his superman dunk -

Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk

Haha

True, he was the dumbest ever.

Hmmm, in hindsight, it was when Danny included him in the KG deal.

I fell into the trap also, I saw he could dribble a little going in both directions and that was something Delonte couldn’t/ still can’t do.

And tearing his finger off on a nail (or what ever) in his basement should have been a good indication on what was between the ears.

Everyone likes to make fun of Gerald....

But I actually have really fond memories of him. Gerald played with passion, if anyone even really remembers. When Paul Pierce faked an injury that year so it would be easier to tank, Gerald stepped up and was dropping 20 points a night for a little while.

Gerald could drain threes, and take it to the hoop. He was very fun to watch and he took every game very seriously during a season that clearly the owners were not taking seriously.

I appreciate Gerald Green very much, I watched nearly every game from that broken season and he was the highlight through much of it, him and Rondo, of course.

Anyway, I wont hate on Gerald. Everything I remember about him says he was a true Celtic.

by incoherent. on Aug 5, 2011 4:20 PM EDT reply actions

Wow you say Pierce faked an injury and call Gerald Green a true Celtic?

I thought being a true Celtic was about hard work, unselfishness, and doing whatever it takes to win. Not being talented, and using that only to score when you feel like it.

by kg2128 on Aug 5, 2011 6:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I was pulling for him as much as anyone else but...

…you have to admit he failed and it wasn’t because he didn’t have talent. As far as being a true celtic?I put him one notch above Curtis Rowe and Sidney Wicks.

by Little D on Aug 5, 2011 10:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Some Notes

Pierce didn’t fake an injury. He had a stress or complete foot fracture and he came back to play at the end of the season. When he came back is when Al Jefferson started to blossom because Pierce was the only one who could or would get the ball to him inside.

Thought Gerald had what Red would call “false hustle”. He often came from the corner, went high for a rebound, but rarely got one. It looked like he was hustling, but it only looked like it.

I would never compare Gerald to Wicks and Rowe. Gerald just didn’t really know how to play. Wicks and Rowe were vets with skills who just quit on us. I remember Curtis Rowe’s famous statement: " They don’t put W’s and L’s on your paycheck". I also remember they played for us when Dave Cowens was at the end of his career and was practically a cripple because of his bad ankles and feet. But it was Dave who did all the rebounding. I also think that was Max’s first year here. He and Cowens were the only guys who really played. But the one good thing about Wicks and Rowe is that when they were gone along came Larry.

Update...

Rowe has been convicted a number of times in recent years on drug charges, and has been homeless.

Concur that Gerald was not of the...

…Wicks and Rowe mentality but I listed him as a notch above so we’re both on the same page, I guess.

I just have a hard time listing GG as a True Celtic, how can I put him on the same page as Cowens, Sanders or maybe my all time favorite Johnny Most. That status is not for everyone that played here, IMO of course.

Sorry, realized that wasn't written in a harsh tone

I meant, I may have missed it and it is posted elsewhere but otherwise I think other readers would get a kick out of it

Waltah Was A Celtic

Waltah had lesser skills than Gerald Green, but he had REAL hustle. Unfortunately Jim O’Brien messed him up by getting him to play outside and shoot three’s, as opposed to playing under the basket where he really was effective, especially for his skill level. Everyone loved and respected Waltah.
