Rage

Look guys, I'm a fan. Ask me why and I'd be hard-pressed to explain it. It was something about KG's madness, Pierce's carefree steely determination, Ray's polish, Rondo's edgy confidence, and even yeah, that ridiculous fat big baby (whose departure, btw, I did not mourn). For some reason, it seemed to me that you guys were doing something noble, that you were out to prove that even a (very) flawed game like NBA basketball could bring some meaning and joy to our lives. And you did it, back in 2008, yes you did.

Now we are in a different place. I suppose the lockout proved to all of you that, well.... it's not a very noble enterprise. It's a business, like any other. I get that. And it's ok; you're not wrong.

But after all you've been through, after all you've brought us through, all the laughs and tears and triumphs and pain.... are you really going to leave the stage with a whimper like this? Are you going to retire with the kind of meek and hollow efforts through which we've had to suffer these past weeks?

Don't do it Kevin. Don't go out like this. Rage again, you wonderful madman. And Paul... find the pride again. When the tall trees bend and sway against you, don't back away. RAGE man, rage against them all.

If you lead, this team will follow. Don't lead them into the dark, guys. Don't go out with a whimper. RAGE. Rage like you did before. Youth will have its day one day... but make it not yet. Rage now again against the dying.

I promise you, we'll be right there with you.
