Celtics Future
To be honest I hate writing about the future so early in this short season, but i see a a lot of fans writing about how to improve this years team and maybe putting us in worst position in the future. To me this season does not have a very hopeful ending no matter what adjustments we make. Danny Ainge made the trade for Jeff Green to set the celtics up for a big time team in 2012.
Think about it the only contracts that the celtics are obligated to are Rondo, Pierce, and I am hoping Jermaine retires so his contract will be up. We will resign Jeff Green, Brandon Bass, and Kenyon Dooling which will probably put us up to 40 million to our salary cap for the year and there are free agents like Roy Hibbert, Javale McGee, Elton Brand, Batum, Eric Gordon. Not to mention Dwight Howard but i think we dont have much of a chance with him.
This could be are roster
PG Rondo, Keyon Dooling
SG Eric Gordon, Ray Allen (possibly) or E. Moore
SF Jeff Green, Pierce, Marquis
PF Elton Brand, Brandon Bass, JJJ
C (Roy Hibbert or Javale McGee) , Przybilla if we get him later on this year, Wilcox
Im not saying all of this will happen but its an idea
Thoughts?
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

We are set for the future if we can get a good center. Gordon and Howard are not coming to the celtics. I would love hibbert but he’s not coming except through trade. We should go after greg monroe cousins or build through the draft

Howard has already said he doesn't want to play in Boston
He has said the three teams he wants to be on and he wants to play with d williams. What can we offer to change his mind about all of that. As for gordon he’s going to get a huge contract from new Orleans they will have a new owner who won’t want the star that they just traded their super star for to leave so we won’t be able to out bid them

some players
change their mind just like what KG did he does not want to go to boston and yet he is here. lets see how the nets perform until end of February and what other things develop in NBA.
He wants to play with d Williams
The rumor is they will both either go to Dallas or lakers where there is an old star to play with and unless Orlando or the nets get the other one plus a third top tier player they are gone

Neither Dallas or LA have the necessary trade assets or cap room to acquire both
that is unless they were willing to part with Dirk or Kobe, respectively. Which they aren’t.
they dont have to trade
d williams and howard are free agents at the end of the year. all they have to do is clear 34 million or so in cap room which dallas can do very easily by giving away marion and haywood

Dallas would have to make some really big moves
and let Terry and Kidd walk after this season. Kidd is old which wouldn’t be a big deal, especially if you’re getting Deron Williams back. But losing Terry would hurt.
I guess potentially they could trade Haywood and Marion/Odom for Dwight, making a run for the title this year, then sign Williams in the offseason. I guess potentially, if everything broke their way which rarely ever happens, Dallas could acquire both.
Its really impossible for the Lakers to do it since they traded away one of their biggest assets for nothing.
They don't need to trade for them
All Dallas has to do is clear the cap space and wait for free agency. They can trade Marion and haywood for second round picks or whatever and have enough cap room to sign both players in free agency nothing has to fall their way except Howard and Williams wanting to play with dirk

only Kidd and Terry are due to be FAs at the end of the season.
Haywood, Marion, and Odom all have large contracts for next year. In order to just trade for 2nd round picks, they have to find a team that is far enough under the cap that they can absorb that kinda contract.
There are five teams that have the cap space to take one: Washington, LAC, GS, Toronto, and Detroit. Of those, only LAC would take on such a contract as they are playoff contenders who have a chance to go pretty deep. They’d probably like either Haywood or Marion.
There are two teams that can take on two of those contracts: Indiana and Jersey. Jersey is keeping cap space to for the 2012 FA. Indiana only has two players making 8 figures which is astounding. They are young and will be scary for any contender in the East come playoffs. Add any two of these guys to their roster, and, with the short season, they could potentially become a Finals team as well.
Two teams have the ability to absorb all three players: Denver and Sacramento. The Kings have no reason to do this. They’re still a lottery team and adding all these contracts won’t change that. Denver is another story. If they clear the roster spaces and bring in these guys, they could easily make it to the Western Conference Finals.

nick young
is going to be available, id like to have him.
umm...
What people are forgetting is the really good players available, not named Howard, are RESTRICTED FAs.. so the celtics can go and sign Gordon, Hibbert, magee, Jennings, Monroe, love, horford all they want but the teams can match the offer. And if your the current team of those players. Why wouldnt you match..
Brand is worn out, rather have kg. Pryzbilla is a current 7 foot center with out a job, and you want him to start. Let’s get draft picks. Build okc style. Drummond, rivers, barnes, boatright, etc.. unlike last time ainge was ‘building’ and traded gay for telfair
