We are talking about the wrong guys to trade!!!

I'm just gonna throw this out there because I feel like we have all fallen for the sentiment that through Rondo comes number 18... IMO this is wrong. The two guys out there last night busting their tails and LEADING this team to victory were the same 2 guys that lead them to banner 17, PAUL PIERCE and KEVIN GARNETT!!! Ever since Garnett's injury in 09 we have been falling in love with the notion that Rondo should be the leader of this team, that Rondo is our best player. I'm sorry but the two animals out there last night diving on the floor for a loose ball while up 20 in a regular season game ARE our best players. When we won is was Paul and Kevin at the podium not Rondo. If we are going to win or have any chance at a deep run these guys need to realize that they need to lead this team and not DEFER to a player that is a far better passer than scorer.

Further more I thought Avery played the role last night that Rondo played in 08... A guy that is there to facilitate, bring energy and hustle his ass off. He did that and Rondo does that too, SOMETIMES, you ever notice how we have these long droughts during games?? It's because Rondo decides that he would like to take a few plays off. He gambles way to much on defense to the point where he is a liability on both sides of the ball, not just offensively.

What one player is on our roster we could get the most value out of?? RONDO!! Trade Rondo not Paul Kevin or Ray!! They still want to win but cannot do so deferring to a lesser player. I agree Rondo is the most talented player on our roster, but please tell me how many championships Allen Iverson won being pound for pound the most talented player in the NBA for all those years?? 0!!! This game isn't just about talent, it's about Heart, Passion, bringing it EVERY night.

Danny, Doc, give these guys back THEIR team!!! Let Avery play the role of 2nd year point guard to go along for the ride!! Let The Truth and the Big Ticket show you why they have those nicknames and Rondo does not!!!

GMs leary anyway

Gm’s are now thinking twice about giving up multiple players for a mega star. Just reminded of Knicks OMG! They get Carmelo Denver got W. Chandler (15 ppg last year), Gallinari (37 points last night vs Knicks-ouch)), Felton (Good PG) and Mosgov (7’2, and can run the floor). what a fleecing that was. Rondo might not bring back enough in trade to solve our problems- especially with lack of bigs available. Smaller deals for rebounders like Thompson / Bierdrens/ etc may have to be the plan.

I see Rondo in Utah or Phoenix

Rondo for Nash and 1 First Round.

or Rondo for Harris and 1 First Round.

Both unprotected.

Or

Rondo for Nash and Gortat

Almost had me going for a second..

First off I’d like to say I’m a huge Celtics fan, but I’m also a realist. I don’t see Boston winning a title this year, even if they continue to player like they did against Orlando (let me remind you its only one game). There is still the Heat and Bulls to get through, that’s not an easy or IMO a doable task for this team right now.

Trading Rondo or Pierce or KG, etc. will just put this team in a funk again (Perk trade). This team plays with their heart on their sleeve (the KG motto) and that can be a problem when they lose a piece of the team. Trading the core (PP, Allan, KG, or RR) is not the answer because teams will be foolish to trade a young talent (Gay, Lowry, Martin, etc.) for an aging vet with 2-3 years MAX on their careers. -- Saying that let me backtrack because a team like Memphis/T-Wolfs is a Veteran like Pierce away from being a contender or even winning it all, so they might consider the trades (call me crazy). But I see no other teams that are willing to throw away the last 5 years of rebuilding for a year or two window of maybe contending.

How I see us winning banner 18: Play out this year, rest the vets more and improve on our young talent (Bradley, Johnson, Moore, and Stiemsma) to get more game time experience. Bradley played well against Orlando, damn he played the best defense I’ve seen this year. But lets not forget Nelson is no Rose, Wall, Wade, etc. and Bradley isn’t going to play this well every game, consistency is what they have to learn. - Back to my winning idea. Once this season is done, if KG and Allan are willing to take lesser contracts (which i believe they will, if they see we can win if we add another piece from FA) If we can keep this team together and add one or two pieces from FA we will be back to our winning ways

Potential Line ups
pg: Rondo, Bradley
sg: Allen, Moore, Daniels or Pietrus
sf: Sign Iguodala, Pierce coming off bench, Pavlovic or whoever
pf: Either start Bass or KG, third option is JaJuan Johnson(I really think Johnson is going to be a player, I hope we trade Bass and get good value for him and play JJ more)
c: Sign somone like Okafor or Jefferson or Blair or Cousins and Stiemsma off the bench (I’m looking for defense here, so maybe: Okafor/Blair/Stiemsma combo)

With something along those lines and willing the big three stick together and understand they are not the starts anymore, we can have a stacked team.

PS. “This game isn’t just about talent, it’s about Heart, Passion, bringing it EVERY night.” - that’s referring to Rondo??? - That’s BS and we all know it. Don’t tell me Rondo has no Heart, Passion or that he doesn’t bring it every night. He is the motor of our team and he hustles his ass off every game, we overplay him at times — so give him a break if he’s tried every once in a while. And yes, he can score and create not only his own shot or drive to the basket but he creates open shots for everyone else on our team.

thanks for reading, had a lot on my mind about this team, hope you enjoy.

good thought but wrong offseason

…. Iguodala, Okafor, Blair, Jefferson are all FAs not this offseason, but the next. So, it would be this year and next year you would have to ride out. SUCKS that there are only 2 people available/worthy of max contracts this offseason(Howard and Love), and both of them are gonna have contracts before free agency even begins.
ALSO i think kg retires after this season is over.

Jartem...

nice post. Looks like you really thought this through. I agree with you on almost everything except one thing. I strongly feel that Pierce has a lot left in him and should still be the starter or get the majority of minutes until they can find someone that can beat him out of his spot.

One Question- Are you thinking Ray Allen to continue as a starter? I ask because I would rather have him come off he bench. He’s a great shooter and that’s it. The defensive skills have waned quite a bit but his shooting is still top notch.

As for Rondo- I agree with you 100%.

So you’re saying Rondo has no heart or passion?

You are saying AI has no heart or passion?

I feel like those guys have it more than anyone. They are like feral cats on the court.

I see Pierce and KG mailing it in lately (besides last night) while Rondo is going crazy.

The Grizz want a 1st round pick for OJ mayo. I say we go for it. Rondo and Mayo would be nice for the future. Maybe we should go after Gortat for the Center position.

The Avery Bradley love fest is well-deserved

but he is not a facilitator. The Celtics ran their offense through Pierce last night. After Pierce, the best facilitator they had out there was Marquis Daniels.

We should wait and see how teams (and Bradley!) adjust to the Bradley press before talking about what we can and can’t do without our starting point guard. The book has been written on Rondo- he will back off if you hack him when he goes to the basket (unless it’s a big game). The book on Avery Bradley, if he keeps this up, is going to be to run him blindly into half-court screens until he can’t see straight. The Magic didn’t figure that out in one game, but others will.

The core of the Celtics is a set of three outstanding jumpshooters. You have to have someone who can drive and dish to go with those guys. Rondo is one of the best; there are only 2-3 other guys in the league who will maximize what the big 3 have left the way that Rondo can. It should take more than 2 games for you to lose sight of that.

using a mid-court screen to peel off a presser

can be countered if you have another good on-ball defender to do the pickup.

When Rondo and Bradley on the floor together it will be hard to defeat the press with a mid-court screen.

Otherwise, yes, you are absolutely correct. We need to see how this plays out in the long run.

NBA Officiating - Corrupt? Incompetent? Which is worse? Does it matter? It sucks.
