Celtics Look To Use Same Magic On,... The Magic

Boston Celtics at Orlando Magic, Jan 26, 2012 8:00 PM EST

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's an egotistical and insufferable 6'9 center that just so happens to be extremely talented and athletic!

Boston Celtics (7-9) at OrlandoMagic (12-5)
Time: 8:00 PM EST, Thursday, January 26, 2012
Venue: Amway Center, Orlando, FL
Game #s: Regular Season Game #17, Road Game #7
TV: TNT, CSNNE, TSN Radio: WEEI, WDBO, ESPNR, KTAR
Officials: Michael Smith, Nick Buchert, David Jones
The Line: The Celtics beat the Magic on Monday night in
without question their best game of the season. The C's
were 2-1 against Orlando last year, and 1-3 against them
in 09-10.

Game Thread | Chat Room

Whatever you did on Monday, do the exact same thing tonight. I think the Celtics should request to wear their home whites and force the Magic to wear the same jerseys from the other night. Start the same lineup, use the same rotations. Just because Dooling, Wilcox, and Pietrus are available doesn't mean you have to use them. Doc should study the game tape from Monday and substitute exactly the same way. Whatever it takes.

Now, if things don't go exactly as planned, I suppose then you can sub in the guys that are healthier now. I suppose.

Is there any way we can just push this game back a few days - like a rain delay, only indoors? I just want to savor the moment a little while longer. No? Ok, then if we must, let us do whatever we can to do the same exact thing.

Update: I forgot: Jermaine O'Neal isn't playing tonight. Quick, someone give JaJuan Johnson a #7 jersey, shave his head, put a headband on him and hope nobody (especially Dwight Howard) notices.

It's gonna be tougher without JO

He did a good job holding Dwight down. Tough. Bad news.

by JR99 on Jan 26, 2012 3:20 PM EST reply actions

no JO

will spell major headaches for the C’s. No one else really has the bulk or size to handle Dwight. Hope Wilcox is playing tonight or it’s going to be a quick night of foul trouble for Steimsma, KG, Bass and JJJ.

Welcome back wilcox

Hope your knees all good because you’re starting. Oh yeah we are playing the best center in the league. K good luck

What a surprise. JO is hurt.

This will be a vicious beating tonight. Keeping it between a 20-30 point loss will be an accomplishment.

Hey, thats what I like to see....

keep it real gloomy and horribly pessimistic that way if there is any shimmer of light its the most glorious light raining down from eternity’s past.

Maybe if Daniels sits on Bradley's shoulders to guard Dwight...

we have a chance in the paint. Hey last time it was Bradley’s turn to shine. Now it is Siemsma’s turn. Let’s see him go for 20 and 12 (before anyone laughs at me, did anyone predict that the Celtics would hold the Magic to 56 points without Ray, Rondo and Pietrus??)…..LOL. Should be a fun game to watch.

by JPV on Jan 26, 2012 4:33 PM EST reply actions

Regarding JO, all they are saying is it's his knee

So, will this be a game or two missing knee injury or a 1-3 month missing knee injury?

by vinnie on Jan 26, 2012 4:39 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, I saw him grab his left knee when he took a charge last game ...

thought that might spell t-r-o-u-b-l-e. Well, let’s see what they come up with as an alternative. KG did pretty good the little bit he guarded Howard last game.

by rocknrollforyoursoul on Jan 26, 2012 5:01 PM EST up reply actions

They'll shoot better at home.

I smell a recipe for foul trouble and terrible matchups in the frontcourt — maybe a big game for D12. Hope I’m wrong.

Toinght will be even tougher

Tough task for the undermanned Celtics to repeat what they did to Orlando a few days ago. Normally teams can compensate for injuries in the short term but come back to earth quickly. After all for the most part there is a reaosn bench players don’t start – they simply aren’t good enough.

Figures that JO would follow up a great effort by missing the next game due to injury. Just par for the course at this point.

Hopefully the C’s can muster the same type of defensive energy tonight that they showed in the previous game against Orlando. Orlando will most certaintly adjust to that so pulling out a victory tonight will be even tougher.

From Doc Rivers 1/6/12 --- "Listen, we’re a 4-4 basketball team. That’s what we are," said Rivers. "You are what your record is; Don’t make no mistake about that. I mean, one of the guys said, ‘Hey, that’s alright, we’re better than that.’ And I said, ‘No we’re not. You’re what your record says you are. And you always have the ability to do something about that.

Aaak no JO, Rondo and Allen...

From 2 to 3 starters… We need another round of that focused defense again to repeat..

you guys honestly thought we could play the similar bball

jrich ryan jameer all doing their thing. Glad i took them -9.5 but always hurt to see the celts get manhandled like this.

"I’m going to probably fade to black,’’ he said. "To be honest, I’m not a showman guy. I’m going to fade to black. I don’t know what I will do. I’m an idealist. I have a high drive and I’m very determined. Fade to black, man, like evaporate.’’

Typical Boston area fan

Always claim the worst is going to happen. Get excited for the team when it doesn’t, act superficially superior when it does.

um...

“Get excited for the team when it doesn’t, act superficially superior when it does.”

that has got to be the most moronic statement of the day.

If anything, I am a realist. I call n say things as is. When did I claim anything?

"I’m going to probably fade to black,’’ he said. "To be honest, I’m not a showman guy. I’m going to fade to black. I don’t know what I will do. I’m an idealist. I have a high drive and I’m very determined. Fade to black, man, like evaporate.’’

by TheBigFive on Jan 26, 2012 9:13 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

ouch...

We dug ourselves deep into a hole. Both teams are playing good D, but it seems like the Celtics are trying hard to find a way to score. This is when we get in trouble. We move the ball around, get the shot clock down to a few seconds, and put up a bad shot. We have no interior presence – swing the ball in, post someone up, and get an easier basket (rather than a bad shot).

Painful

This is a hard game to watch. It seems there is a foul every 5 seconds. I don’t know how much more I can watch

I think bradley got a little too cocky after 1 good game in his life

Nelson sure isnt “begging for mercy” tonight. Looks like bradley is back to his normal self

It looks like we are trying to have a 3 point contest….just because pietrus made a few doesnt mean we all should attempt them…because they r not dropping!

Brandon Bass scores!

Gotta love that trade for Bass — we need someone who can step up and hit shots like that.

Moore

Best game of the year baby! Love that we finally got a productive rookie. He’s only the only rookie since the big 3 era to show confidence, we really need that lets admit it we are still a Top 3 defensive team we just can’t score the ball. I really hope this kid becomes a baller and we can cross that SG position off our worries to for the future because I really think the most important piece for this team to really compete as good again is A good offensive big man. Wether were talking about today or next couple of years we need that guy

outsiders opinion

doc rivers is an awesome coach, sucks that hes considering retirement after this contract ends…

orlando is a team of mental midgets. they came out with some fire, then they took a lead and thought they can start laughing. I blame that part on howard, who has the kind of personality. I have long thought that a team often personified whoever their leader was.

The celtics on the other hand, their leader is kg, despite his quickly decreasing basketball skills (due to age) he still is the main personality, and much of that has rubbed off further on guys like pierce and rondo, so now you see the personality of the celtics as a claw it out never say die team.

Orlando not only could have won this game, they honestly should have won this game, but then they went all jovial and now dont deserve to win…

AMAZING D!

We played amazing D! We made a run, kept running, scored, and won this game! It was amazing seeing the C’s celebrate the win! A win without Rondo, Allen, and JO!
Moore had a great game!

Your appropriate nicknames for Moore:

3’Twaun

Smooge

The Red Button (as in, hit the red button for emergency offense)

These have been tested and approved by the Hammer & Rails community after four years of developing him at Purdue.

The Truth

So…anyone still want to trade Paul Pierce after the last few games?

by HarryFlashman on Jan 26, 2012 11:03 PM EST reply actions

yeeeeeaaaaahh!!!

where are the bandwagoners who wants to “blow” this up? any of your “trade ideas” probably?

by greenlion on Jan 26, 2012 11:05 PM EST reply actions

Wilcox

I think Wilcox had a really nice game. His 1-on-1 defense on Howard was pretty good. He could be better on rotations. But he is a quality big backup.
