Celtics announce release of Dionte Christmas and Jamar Smith. With $260K guarantee, Christmas a bit of a surprise.

It's official. Odds are, Rob Kurz and Micah Downs will be released before the season starts so that leaves one spot open. Boston has been looking for a back-up point guard since Keyon Dooling's retirement a few weeks ago; many thought Christmas would fit that bill, Downs has impressed here and there during the preseason, and there are still options in the free agent pool. Danny could also hold off and wait until December or January to fill out the roster. I'm betting that there's another shoe to drop in the next 24 hours. Hours after The Reverend announced that he was hanging it up, Darko Milicic was on a plane to sign a vet minimum with the Celtics. Could there be another move in the mix?
