No defense by the Celtics in Miami

120 points. Let that soak in for a moment. When's the last time a Celtics team gave up 120 points? I don't even want to know.

Heat wave drains C’s - BostonHerald.com

"The story of our night was our defensive struggles," said Paul Pierce, whose 23-point, five-assist, five-rebound performance went for naught. "That’s not who we are, the way we defended as a team. "We’re not going to give up 120 points. We gave them 30 points pretty much each and every quarter. We’re going to be a defensive team, stop teams from scoring, and we were on our heels all night."

Ugh.

Kevin Garnett explains why he gave Ray Allen no dap

Kevin Garnett talks about why he didn't shake Ray Allen's hand -Celtics blog - Boston Globe basketball news

Garnett was asked why he passed on greeting Allen: "You know what man, I was just trying to stay as neutral as I could but obviously I'm an intense person. Other than it was blank, I just saw the Heat uniforms and obviously he's on the other side and I just tried to play the game, man."

Just KG being KG and I love him for it.

First half recap - Celtics vs Heat in game 1

The Celtics were obviously very pumped up for this game. It got off to an auspicious start with a couple of Heat blocks and a Battier three pointer but the Celtics calmed down and swung back with some good transition baskets and situational buckets.

  • Courtney Lee was very effective on both ends of the court - defending Wade and hitting jumpers all over the court.
  • As reported, Ray Allen hit his first three pointer - a corner 3. So much for hoping he was still hurt or out of rhythm.
  • Love the lack of love that KG gave Ray. You are either with KG ...or he's against you.
  • Rajon Rondo got off to a fast start with several assists and a few buckets but quieted down in the 2nd quarter. 8 assists so far but only 8 points.
  • Fairly quiet night for the Celtics bigs thus far - including KG, Bass, Green, and Sullinger.
  • Pierce has been strong so far though, with 16 first half points.
  • Scoring really isn't the problem here - defense is (transition D in particular) - need to get some stops to win this game.

Ray Allen checked in, went to the Celtics bench, and shook hands with various members of the staff - and of course got the cold shoulder from Kevin Garnett.

Ray Allen hits first three pointer

I was hoping that Ray Allen would be off rhythm having to adjust to a new routine and new team and new system. However, he stepped up and hit his very first three pointer for the Heat.

Celtics 1, Heat 1: Darko picked Boston over Miami

#20 wasn't the only free agent who had a choice between the Garden and South Beach. Darko Milicic was also courted by Pat Riley, but Darko opted for a "role" in Doc's rotation rather than a spot at the end of Spoelstra's bench.
