Celtics recall Fab Melo from Maine

Nick Laham

Two day after sending Kris Joseph back to Maine, the Celtics have recalled Fab Melo from their D-League affiliate Red Claws.

It's a curious decision by Celtics' brass. Unlike Joseph, Melo has been putting up modest numbers up north, averaging around 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game in 23 minutes of play. With the Celtics off until Wednesday and the Red Claws off until Friday, this could just be an opportunity for Melo to get some reps in practice while the team is still in town. It's a great way for the team to keep tabs on their rookies. Joseph was with the big league squad last week and even saw the floor time against the Timberwolves. This week, it looks like Fab will log some time in Waltham with Garnett barking in his ear. With the new rule that you can recall players as many times as you want, I like that Doc and Danny haven't just completely banished the two Orangemen up in Maine. With these frequent visits back to Boston, they can still feel like part of the team and have their development monitored constantly.
