There really is an upside to getting Bynum inspite of the injuries. If he doesn't return by the trading deadline or returns in Jan. but only plays 5-7 games then goes out again, the Sixers may entertain offers instead of paying him +$15 mil. for nothing. If we trade Green & Bass (+$15 mil. combined), we can get Bynum but we'll most likely have to add 2 more young players & a draft pick because Green & Bass alone are a salary dump to Philly while we get Bynum's expiring contract thereby freeing us. However, Green can be servicable if in the right place, he can thrive in Philly since they are loaded with young talents, Jeff is really more effective being with young talents where he doesn't have the burden of big expectations like how it is here in Boston. Jeff can really flat out play & be productive, but only if alongside other talents & not being the man. Hence, that's the bargaining chip Boston has in trading Green which may make Philly consider since he's pretty young, then they also get a servicable Bass. However, there's no way in the world will they take only these 2, they will demand more which is just fair & reasonable. Hence, we'll have to add Sully, Melo, & next year's 1st round draft pick which will not be bad at all since it will be "middle of the pack" & not a very high pick. Thus, it won't hurt us to include next year's pick, in Melo, Philly gets a big man in return. Yet we unload Jeff & Bass who really won't take us far in the future inspite of being servicable since they really are not just the right fit for us.
But why get Bynum?
Well, because he has a history of returning back in time even if being out most of the regular season & he did help LA win back to back. If he only makes it to Apr. & plays a mere 10 games towards the end, we'll pay him +$1 million per game but rest assured, we'll go very deep into the playoffs & most possibly win it all because no way will Miami beat us since Bradley can really neutralize the aging Wade, LBJ is the only player that can hurt us. Yet if we have a servicable Bynum & KG, no way will we get beat because it even makes Rondo & PP even a lot more deadly. Indeed, putting Bynum in our line up will make the game so much easier for both KG & PP while Rondo will have a a legit post-up player to assit to inside making him even more deadly that banner 18 is guaranteed! But if Bynum never returns, at least we cleared long term & contracts & can rebuild starting next year yet we still can negotiate with Bynum (who's still young) for a reasonable contract since we showed interest in him by taking on his $15 mil. this year. If he sign's with us for say, $10-$12 mil./year x7 years, it's worth the gamble though it really will be up to the top brass. But if he does return towards the end of this season, banner 18 & 19 are really a strong possibility before KG & PP retires.
Or perhaps another way such a trad ecan happen is via a 3-team trade with Indy who may want to unload Hibbert. Roy then can go to Philly who may want an equal big man in return, then maybe Indy would entertain our offer since it has a first round pick & Sully/Melo, they can move Green or Jeff or a combo of the 4 ex-Celtics
to get something in return in lossing Hibbert.
Or perhaps, it can simply be a Boston-Indy trade, we then get Hibbert but we really have to include a draft pick along with the other 4 to make it happen.
At any rate, I think this is the only way Boston can rebuild, Green & Bass WILL NOT take us far in the future inspite of them being servicable. But some team may take them since both can really play if in the right team, but we have to add more in order to make some team take on them.
