Where Should Rondo Be Ranked???
Promoted FanPost
What is a Rondo worth??? What makes a point guard valuable? Is it his playmaking abilty? Floor leadership? Clutch performance. His shot making skills, passing skills, or performance with the game on the line??? Which of these PG would you not feel as comfortable having them run your team as Rondo, and why??? Would you trade Rondo for any of them, not worrying about salary or age, just based on what makes them a top twenty PG!!!
TOP EIGHTEEN according to Hollinger; Rajon Rondo is ranked 18th, Jarrett Jack 19th, Andre Miller 20th...
1) Jeremy Lin-NYK
2) CP3-LAC
3) D.Rose-CHI - reigning MVP
4) Nash-PHO
5) S.Curry-GS
6) Westbrook-OKC
t7) T.Parker-SA
8) L.Williams-PHI
9) K.Irving-CLE
10) D.Williams-NJ
11) K.Lowry-HOU
12) CJ Watson-CHI
13) B.Jennings-MIL
14) J.Farmar-NJ, decent player on bad team=inflated stats
15) N.Robinson-GS, decent player on bad team=inflated stats
16) T.Lawson-DEN
17) Mo Williams-LAC
18) Rajon Rondo
etc.
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Hollinger rankings are stupid
just go as far as to look at his power rankings. He’s always wrong, his numbers mean nothing.
Rondo is clearly better then all but maybe three of those guys.
Cp3, Rose, and maybe Westbrook
Of course some other guys are great but they are older, the rest are plain worse.
so, you are saying that rondo is worth more than...
Nash, S. Curry, D. Williams, K. Irving, T. Parker, L. Williams, B. Jennings, K. lowry et al…?
by greensince72 on Feb 12, 2012 12:35 AM EST up reply actions
Yes. Nash is better at running an offense but he is 13 years older.
I hope you added Williams and Jennings as a joke.
who cares if he is 13yrs older, i want to win another championship this year...
DAinge has made it perfectly clear that we are rebuilding this team come summer, who knows what will happen with KG, Allen, maybe even Pierce. If you have a chance to win NOW, trade Rondo for Nash & Gortat. Worry about next year after you win Banner 18 THIS YEAR… just saying…

if you dont agree with the list where would you put rondo in the league

espn, hollinger per, ranks every nba player by position and overall
is Rondo better than a b. Jennings,k. Lowry, k. Irving, m. Williams, t. Lawson,s. Curry,mo Williams, s. Nash et al….
the post read regardless of salary, age, etc...
WHAT IS RONDO worth, where should he be ranked??
regardless of salary and age top 10
1. Rose.
2. Paul
3. Nash
4. Rondo
5. Westbrook
6. Parker
7. Williams
8. Rubio
9. Irving
10. Lin
westbrook and williams are both better than rondo
by JuJuan some moore on Feb 12, 2012 3:10 AM EST up reply actions
Dont agree. Westbrook plays like a 2 guard and Williams is having an awful year and his body language is terrible.
body language? hes a professional and arguably a top 3 point guard
westbrook is a top 20 player in this league rondo is barely top 40
i love watching rondo play but he does not fit this team so we should either switch rondo bring in a young starter to run with him
by JuJuan some moore on Feb 12, 2012 6:15 AM EST up reply actions
Rondo shoots a better percentage and he’s a better defender and passer than both these guys.
Maybe you only look at points scored.
To me that tells me he is better.
If you haven’t notice Deron William’s body language then you haven’t seen a Net’s game this season.
well i guess we can agree to disagree
but ill take both williams and westbrook to build a team around before rondo
by JuJuan some moore on Feb 12, 2012 7:52 AM EST up reply actions
rondo shoots a better percentage than who???
Rondos 49%, 23%3pt, 59%ft 10.6 attempts 0.6 3pt attempts, 4.4ft per game
Westbrook 47%,28%3pt, 81%ft, 17.2 attempts, 6.0 attempts, 5.6 ft per game
D. Williams 41%, 34%3pt, 85%ft, 18.7 attempts, 2.4 attempts, 5.9 ft per game
The main difference between Rondo vs d.will, westbrook is that Rondo is hesitant totake shots, especially 3 pt shots, and he is afraid to drive the lane in the fourth quarter with the game on the line because he can’t shoot free throws…
by greensince72 on Feb 12, 2012 2:04 PM EST up reply actions
rondo is a better passer
Rondo 9.5 ast, playing with 3 hof’s
D.will 8.4 ast, playing with who???
Westbrook 6.2 ast, playing with Durant, perk, ibaka
by greensince72 on Feb 12, 2012 2:08 PM EST up reply actions
All the Hall of famers are jump shooters. He averaged that number without a healthy Pierce and without KG and Allen consistently producing. Steve Blake has three great guys to pass to also and I don’t see him posting better numbers. Chris Paul has better people to pass this year and his numbers didn’t increase. Rondo will produce no matter who his team mates are.
I hope his team mates are always Celtics.
good point.
Rondo is ranked 52nd best player in the NBA.

Westbrook lit rondo up earlier this year
I wouldnt have rondo in top 10
Hollinger's rankings are a joke
Almost every single ranking is incorrect too high or too low.
Agree...
Rondo is floor general not a top scorer, which is what his role is meant to be. He is easily a top 5 PG. The Hollinger list is a joke.
steve nash is probably the best floor general of the last 15 years...
Career numbers 14.6pts, 8.5ast, 3rb,1stl,49%, 43% 3pt, 90%ft
This years numbers at age 38 14.6pts, 10.3ast, 2.6rb, .6stl, 56%, 45% 3pt, 87%ft
VS Rajon Rondo 11pts,7.6ast, 4rb, 2stl, 49%,24% 3pt, 62%ft
So all those people who have said that RONDO for NASH & GORTAT trade = GREAT TRADE,
Who cares if he is 38yrs old, the guy can ball, yes, he cannot defend like Rondo, but the plusses far outweigh the negatives, Steve Nash fits this team and its PLAYING PACE so much better than Rondo. The Celtics would be foolish NOT to do this trade, IF WE WANT TO HAVE A CHANCE TO ADD ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP……..
by greensince72 on Feb 12, 2012 12:21 PM EST up reply actions
nash doesnt play d
and i dont think the suns would give up gortat in a deal
celtics team defense would cover for nash
How many time during a game does Rondo gamble on a steal and watch that player blow by him. The better offense provided by Nash would far outweigh his defensive liabilities.
by greensince72 on Feb 12, 2012 4:02 PM EST up reply actions
nash is 38, rondo is 25

exactly,
and Nash hit the old man wall two years ago in the playoffs. He still looks great in spurts, but he was getting gassed trying to play his style for the whole game (really needs to play his balls to the wall style to be successful) and even the reliable jumper was not falling then. Also, he can’t cover anyone.

Never said...
Nash was not an elite floor general. Yes he has a great career average in points and assists but you can get the same with Rondo plus rebounds, steals and better man to man D. Rondo does take chances but many times has tipped the ball away from his guy to create a turnover.
At 38, how much longer will Nash last or energy does Nash have? He had a hell of a career but if I am Danny, I am not trading Rondo off for someone whose time is short. It would be a foolish trade if Danny is thinking of the future. IMHO, there are too many upsides to keep Rondo right where he is, at least for now.
Hollinger's rankings are bullcrap
18th? Seriously?
Westbrook the ball hog? Deron? CJ Watson? Mo Williams?
Jeremy Lin number one? What is that guy smoking?
I don't follow rules, I let the rules follow me.
he is smoking a pipe called reality!!!
Numbers don’t lie, look at these stats.
Jeremy Lin, 27pts, 8ast, 4 RB, 2st, 51%, 76%ft
Westbrook, 18pts, 7ast, 5rb, 1.6st, 43%, 28% 3pt, 82%ft
Deron, 17pts, 9ast, 3rb, 1.1stl, 46%, 35% 3pt, 81%ft
CJ Watson, 10 pts, 2rb,4ast, 1.3stl, 41%, 46% 3pt, 84%ft (per 20 min as backup)
Mo Williams, 14pts, 5ast, 3rb, 1 stl, 44%, 39%, 87%ft (per 20 min as backup)
Rajon Rondo, 11pts, 7.6ast, 4rb, 2 stl, 49%, 24% 3pt, 62%ft per 32 min as starter
That is the reality….

This is his first chance to start AND he is performing this good with the Knicks missing its two all stars.

So, numbers don't matter??
While I don’t agree 100% with the hollinger rankings, his rankings do take into account the multiple variables that players are ranked based on how much they produce for their teams. Variables such as true shooting ,rb, value added, wins added, etc… these numbers reflect how EFFECTIVE a player is, and how much they contribute to their teams success. Just because a player may be flashy, or highlight worthy, the stats reflect how that IMPACTS his team.
Maybe a better question should have been...
How many of these players have you posted a blog or a comment about, getting rid of Rondo for this guy……..
Lin #1?
How can you rank Lin #1 after 5 games. He’s already declining, look at last night’s game!
Check out my blog at http://conor-soxrox.blogspot.com
yes, he only put up 20 pts, 8 ast
On the second of a back 2 back after getting pounded by the Lakers the night before where he scored 38. Rondo, on the other hand scored 5pts, 7ast, with 5 to against the raptors…..
by greensince72 on Feb 12, 2012 4:00 PM EST up reply actions
i didn't rank him first, hollinger does...
Hollinger rankings can only use the numbers that are generated by the player. Yes it is unrealistic to think that he will be number 1 over the course of a season, last night was a back to back. LOOK at rondo’s latest back to back numbers vs Toronto…..
Nate ranked 15th and Rondo is 18th??
Gonna have to pull an ol yeller in the backyard with whatever troll that ranked this.
ranking came straight from the hollinger per, look it up...
If you want to call him a troll, uh, OK.
Ridiculous.
Way to early to rank Lin #1.
And Mo Williams ahead of Rondo? That is sad.
Rondo is young and on a cap friendly contract so I have to rank him ahead of Nash.
Here is closer to the real rankings:
1. Rose
2. CP3
3. Westbrook
4. Rondo
5. Deron
6. Nash
1. CP3
2. Rose
3. DWill
4. Rondo
5. Nash
6. Westbrook
I like point guards who are pass first and really think these are the ones that get the most of out their teammates. So, that is way I put CP first because he is pass first but he can hit the jumper well enough and can take over a game also if he needs to. Rose is not a pass first pg, more of a two guard imo, but he can break down a defense with a few picks set for like no other and finishes at the rim so well and usually gets fouled—the Bulls rely on this a lot when things are not going well on offense and he can get a good shot right at the rim on just about every drive or set up his teammates, but when in attack mode, he is looking to score. This ability separates him from every player in the league and what makes him special and why I put him two even though he is not your prototype pass first point guard.
DWill is compete and really balanced between scoring and distributing—really good and he is 3. Rondo is the right there with CP in terms of pass first and even quicker than him but with his shooting woes, he drops to four which ain’t bad. Nash is next, but he has hit the old man wall—does look his old awesome self in spurts but when he gets tired even the shot does not fall as consistently and he is a liability on defense. Westbrook is a poor man’s Rose, looks to score first and turns the ball over more and does not finish at the rim nearly as well as Rose, but he is very explosive and can penetrate really well.

post reads regardless of age or salary...
Which player should be ranked where based on ability & results……
LOL THIS CAN'T BE SERIOUS...
Lin? on 12 for 26 shooting last night lol ranked 1st and a whole list of guys that arnt as good as Rondo ahead of him? this guy should just give up posting about sports. Rondo is a top 5 PG there are no arguments. It should be like 1Rose 2CP3 3Deron 4Rondo 5Westbrook then maybe Nash. Now he says regardless of age but age is a factor in their performance and stamina and durability cant count age out.
regardless of age, nash is putting up better numbers than rondo
And Nash has been producing like this for fifteen years. Hollinger of ESPN has Jeremy Lin ranked 1, based on his own criteria, he gets paid big bucks to write about sports, I DONT HAVE HIM RATED in my top 15, thank you

lol oh my freakin god
what a god damm joke jeremy lin as #1 rond is the 3rd best PG rose cp3 and then rondo lol lol lol lol lmfao oh christ this guy is smoking some good dope oh boy jeremy lin.
lohaus #54
RONDO
OK everyone imagine I photoshopped a picture of Rondo stuffing crow in all of your mouths.
Because that’s what he’s doing right now.
Seriously...
Anyone arguing that these rankings are about right / Rondo is ranked where he should be just doesn’t understand basketball…or life.
tonights game is a prime example...
Of why people feel aggravated with Rondo and want to trade him. We love the Rondo who showed up tonight, tonight Rondo was aggressive, confident and in charge. If Rondo could be aggressive EVERY game, playing up to his abilities all the time, THEN you would NEVER hear anyone talk about trading him. It is the Rondo we saw in the Toronto game that needs to be traded…. your top pgs bring the EFFORT every night…
LOL..
When rondo plays like he did today?..First on that list..clearly played better than anyone on that list has played this short season..yes that includes the star of the moment lin!!
remind me
who guarded rondo the whole game?
by JuJuan some moore on Feb 12, 2012 8:49 PM EST reply actions
C. J. Watson
Who is actually a very good defensive guard. Probably a better defensive guard than Derrick Rose.
He’s been playing extremely well when substituting for Rose this season. Not quite the same scorer, of course. But damn good.
It is fair to say we got an edge by not having to defend against Rose tonight, but that doesn’t make the Bull’s defense (2nd in the NBA) any easier to attack.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt? Incompetent? Which is worse? Does it matter? It sucks.
thanks i only saw the first quarter
