New CBA, contracts, and opt-outs
Can someone explain to me the logistics of CP3, Deron, and Howard's contracts as they relate to the new CBA?? According to my primitive understanding, all three have 2 years left on their contracts but can opt out this offseason (except maybe CP3 as I understand he has committed to the Clips not to opt-out)
But I have been told that financially, it actually makes more sense to opt out (for Deron and Howard) even if they want to stay in NJ and Orlando because they can get MORE money. So perhaps the reason that the three of them have not signed multi-year extensions with Nets, Clips, and Magic is more financial than anything else.
If Deron and Howard opt out after this year, they can sign for 5 years at 20 mill each (but if they go to another team, they only get 4 years and around 70 million.) Even a sign and trade wouldn't do much for their salary.
Can someone explain to me the logistics of these 3 guys situations? Am I understanding this correctly?
Be respectful and keep it clean. Thanks.

Maybe I don't make the proper conclusion so I will add it here in the comments.
So my conclusion is that any team that keeps any of these 3 or any team that trades for any of these 3 is taking a risk. Because these 3 players are compelled to opt out as opposed to signing an extension (at least from a financial perspective.)
Is my conclusion correct?
Can CP3 opt out this offseason?
Or has he somehow relinquished that option by agreeing to go to the Clippers?

We were told that the owners won the lockout and playing field would level a little for small markets.
But from the way I am understanding CP3’s situation, Dwill, and Howard; I start to question whether that is the case.
(Upon further research I discovered that CP3 has agreed not to opt out with the Clippers, though I wonder how the NBA enforces that.)
