No Trade

Doc's system is a complicated one that a player has to be a real team player to get into it. The offense and defense keeps on moving. If C's gets new player again in this midseason (especially that this is a shortened one), plays will be broken up again. Remember Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic last year? Yes, as much as we wanted to believe that they are a big plus to the team, they do not know the system. hence, they looked like a lost kids on the floor. C's are a suffering early in the season because the new players were having a hard time to learn it and now fans would like them to be traded? Come on, any trade that C's will do this time will be a backstep. I say, C's keep this team and stop with trade rumors! Any seed in the playoff will do.... C's had shown this in the past. GO BANNER #18!

i agree its difficult to learn the system but

at the same time this doesnt look like a championship team so we have to try

Too early to tell.

They struggled early. But the Raptors game notwithstanding, the team has played a lot better lately.

We need Rondo at a high level for this team to succeed, and he’s been inconsistent. So it’s hard to say for sure one way or another how good the team can be. If he brings that level of effort and play night in and night out, I fully believe this team is perfectly capable of being right in the mix in the playoffs.

i dont think rondo is right for this team

look at the chicago game. he played out of his mind and went off and we still barely beat a roseless bulls team. his success doesnt translate to team success

Bulls are 7-1 without Rose.

Still a really good team, and Watson shot extremely well.

So, what were you expecting, a blow out? They won, and that win had everything to do with Rondo, so I’ll have to respectfully say, I disagree.

Are you kidding?

Rose doesn’t win games!! I want CJ WATSON!! That’s who I want! I mean, look at that record!

rondo plus our first round pick for watson

by JuJuan some moore on Feb 14, 2012 10:28 PM EST up reply actions

they were missing the MVP from last season so i was expecting more than a close win yes. and it took a career night for rondo to win that game so i dont think we are contenders

do or do not, there is no try - yoda

as much as i want to believe you, for a team to blend together, it doesn’t happen overnight…. except in PS3.

right but its not like other teams arent going through the same thing. the amount we improve in chemistry is the same as them and therefore we arent gaining on them by sitting by where as if we make a change we may find a catalyst that ignites our team and we get much better

Ask yourself this question.

Four games against “Good teams” which they were highly competitive and could have won.

New York, Miami, LA, Dallas all came down to a few possessions.

So let’s say the bounce of the ball goes a little different, a couple possessions change, or Pierce hits that look at the end of the LA game (which was a good % shot for him.) And let’s say they’re 2-2, or 3-1.

Now you’re looking at a time who is 18-10, and a lot of people’s perceptions are probably very, very different.

See my point? The difference between “contender” and “pretender” in the minds of public perception, is what? 4-5 possessions going a different way.

But that’s ok, you’re entitled to your perception, no matter how I flawed I believe it is.

we have a potential to only have jajuan greg and wilcox as bigs against detroit. seriously only 3 bigs able to play. we need some young players so the wheels dont fall off

You wonder

If these systems are so complex—- if that isn’t the problem in the first place. Duke, for example, can plug in freshman at will without missing a beat. Basketball—especially defense, should not be that complicated.

by P stoff on Feb 14, 2012 10:22 AM EST reply actions

It's a comfort level, not so much the "x's and o's" of the system.

Some players come in here and struggle because of who they’re playing with. It’s not easy to step on the court with 3 future hall of famers and be willing to take your shots. I think that’s where players have struggled.

The core 4 have been together 5 years now, they know each other, they know where each other like to get their shots, new guys come in and have to adapt to that. Have to learn how to get the ball to these guys in the right position, have to know when to look for their own shot and not press, and they have to deal with the expectations of playing for this franchise, this fan base, and with this team.

Defensively, the rotations are complicated, when to help, when not too. What times do you need to hedge a pick an extra step out, to give the guard a chance to recover, or when can you trust him to get back to give yourself an extra step to get back to the lane. These are “feel” parts of the game that come with time and comfort, you can’t just step on the court and run with it.

College is a whole different ball game, more zone, less rotations, the speed of the game is slower, there’s less athleticism. Can’t compare the two.

by C'sFan on Feb 14, 2012 11:38 AM EST up reply actions

Well..

The priciples of man to man defense are pretty standard from college to pro (weakside rotations, help side, etc). The only real complexity is the 3 second rule, where as in college you can play helpside defense by sagging into the key for as long as you want. Hedging, switching, etc is a phliosophy that is different from team to team— but should be fully understood by this time IMO. Add to that the fact that Rondo constantly gambles (seemingly w/o repercussions from Doc) and its hard to hold it over another guy that he isn’t learning the system. Knowing your teammates IS important and chemistry issues as well. Your right in that a lateral trade is no good at this time.

by P stoff on Feb 14, 2012 2:28 PM EST up reply actions

It's really not though.

It takes an understanding of the players around you to know how the defense can adapt.

With some guards, you may need to hedge higher, as they’re not as strong recovering as others. Others are great at recovering, and can get back to their man much faster, so the big guy can hedge shallow, increasing his chances of getting back to the roller on the pick quicker, and disrupting any passing lanes to the rim. You have to get a feel for how you work with other guys on the court, and what their strengths and weaknesses are.

This is what I’d term “basketball chemistry” and feel and understand for a players strengths and weaknesses on the court, and how you can limit weaknesses and accentuate strengths. It’s different on every team, no matter what the x’s and o’s for a teams defensive philosophy are.

Lol, I can't vote

A trade needs to happen for us to make a run. We need a center. But I wouldn’t “trade evryone” or “trade nly for a dominant player.” i think there are several players (centers) out there who aren’t "dominant but can help us. So I can’t vote!

by Celticsdude on Feb 14, 2012 12:37 PM EST reply actions

center

We just need a solid player. Erden was a good player, tall, that hustled.
