Celtics Injury Updates

The Celtics are hurtin for certain and it doesn't help that they are hurt for real. Here's the latest injury updates from the Globe's Gary Washburn.

Chris Wilcox left the game with 8:45 left in the third quarter with a strained right adductor, an injury he said sustained running down the court. It's Wilcox's third injury this season; he's already missed time with a strained left calf and sore right shoulder.

"My groin stiffened up on me and I couldn't go,'' he said.

Wilcox said he is unsure if he will play tomorrow against his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Jermaine O'Neal, who left last night with a sprained left wrist, was not available for comment after the game.

On the non-injury related absence front, KG will be back:

Garnett missed his second consecutive game because of a personal family matter but he is expected to rejoin the team for tomorrow's game. Garnett left the team after arriving in Detroit Saturday night but has talked with Rivers.

And obviously Rondo is serving another game suspension. It will be his birthday, so I guess he'll have the chance to celebrate as much as he wants to. He should be well rested by the end of the All Star break.

KG is not actually injured and should be back for the OKC game.

but, yeah. We can’t win without bigs.

team

It is tough to know what to do about this team right now. I say wait out the season. How can we know for sure how good or bad this team is when we have so many injures? Maybe that the biggest problem. Moving forward the C’s should pick up players that are younger without a history of injuries through the draft and free agency.

Unfortunately, that is no guarantee.

Dooling, Pietrus, Wilcox, Bass – these guys are not old and had no real injury histories. Yet all have missed significant time this season. Rondo is not old.

Unfortunately injuries strike whenever and whomever at any time.

Very frustrating.

Last year was similarly frustrating as ‘young’ guys like Delonte’, Rondo, BBD, Perk, Semih Erden, Marquis, etc. – all were critical and costly injuries that combined to kill our season.

People always point at our team and say it is ‘old’. Old isn’t the problem.

This is what happens when you sign fragile, injury prone players like JO and Wilcox

No one should be surprised at these ongoing injuries. However, I simply cannot understand how one team sustains so many minor injuries that keep players out anywhere from a game to 2-3 weeks. Are the players not in shape, not stretched properly, etc. etc. etc.? Or, are they babied more than players on other teams? I see Russell Westbrook tweak his ankle pretty badly last week and he is back next game. I see Lamarcus Aldridge tweak is ankle pretty badly and he is back in a couple of games. This is something that is mystifying to me.

As for OKC, they weren’t going to win with or without the bigs. This would be a good game to give a lot of time to the young guys to see what they are made of. The Celts are going to have to start depending on some of them sooner or later.

A lot of the injuries have nothing to do with being in shape.

JO’s wrist – that was injured as he fell taking a hard charge yesterday. ‘Nothing to do with being out of shape. Paul’s bruised heel (although that then led to him not being in shape to start). Rondo’s wrist. Bass was definitely in shape.

A lot of injuries just plain happen out of the blue.

As for the durations? I dunno. Maybe they are extra cautious? Too cautious? Maybe. It is impossible to know. No two players or injuries are identical.

It’s definitely very frustrating.

At this point I wouldn't play KG against OKC.

He’s healing from a hip pointer and I’d rather stretch it close to two weeks of rest for him.

Happy Birthday Rondo!

Take your anger out on players on other teams, go Celtics!

OKC will blow us out

Anyone who can place a sports wager, should. If the bucks have any kind of run then we r outta the playoffs. We literally need seeds 9-15 to continue quitting bcuz we will show NO HEART from here on out. This is the end and the heart stopped beatin not bcuz of lack of will, but bcuz lack of youth. Nothing to be ashamed of. Just time to realize it. On the bright side…almost halfway done with the season from HECK)
