Open Thread On The Taco Bell Skills Challenge
Feel free to use this thread to discuss Rondo's participation in the Skills Challenge. What exactly is that? Here's the official NBA description (after the break). It is supposed to be the 2nd event. I believe coverage starts at 8:30 PM.
Taco Bell Skills Challenge | All-Star 2012 | NBA.com
Due to injury, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors will not be able to defend his Taco Bell Skills Challenge title against a field consisting of Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs, John Wall of the Washington Wizards, Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Deron Williams of the New Jersey Nets. Instead, Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics will compete in Curry's place. The 2012 Taco Bell Skills Challenge will take place on Feb. 25, at Amway Center in Orlando. This year's Taco Bell Skills Challenge will feature an expanded field from five to six participants. The Taco Bell Skills Challenge was introduced at NBA All-Star 2003 in Atlanta and features players competing in a two-round timed "obstacle course" consisting of dribbling, passing and shooting stations. All players must observe basic NBA ball-handling rules while completing the course. The two players with the fastest times from the first round advance to the finals with the order of competition determined by inverse order of the first round times. At the discretion of the referee, television instant replay may be consulted for clarification of rules compliance.
Enjoy.

I'm rooting for RR, of course
Got my alternate away(green and black) jersey of his on. I do think that Irving is probably the favorite due to his solid jumper, passing skills, and quickness.
Don’t count out Rajon; we Celtics fans know that he’s always up for a challenge.
He did pretty well
If he makes it to the finals, I hope he turns it up a notch. Nice to see him having a good time, though.
32.8 seconds not bad
style points for behind the back dribble too

he looked slow
but he made all the baskets and passes, nice job

obviously John Wall isn't used to passing to objects that catch the ball

Bizarro World, indeed.
You just got Rondo'd

Aaaarrrgh... I should have picked Parker
He’s a steady championship proven Finals MVP! Which means nothing here but whatever
Bright spot
Rondo’s jumper has improved ;D
BTW
People always underestimate Tony Parker. The guy is truly playing like a Top 5 PG in the league this year and he’s definitely above Rondo (I’m talking about the reg. Season not the skills challenge).
How can some underestimate an All-Star and former Finals MVP?
Just because media fanboys and casual NBA observers gush over the Roses and the Westbrooks doesn’t mean legit fans don’t know how consistently good Tony Parker over his career in San Antonio.

Now I think you guys are overrating Parker
He is a good scorer and is having a good year, but he’s never been great at d or passing. He isn’t awful at those things, but many guards are better at those 2 things and they do matter.
Oh and actually his numbers aren't much better than before
8.1 assists per game is a career high (solid improvement) but FG% is now at 45.6 which is his lowest since 2003-2004. So compared to previous years he is passing better but scoring less efficiently.
NBA sponsors get their money's worth...
How many times can they squeeze the phrase “Taco Bell” into one press release?

I had a good laugh (and a bitter taste in mouth afterwards)
When I heard they were promoting"healthy lifestyle" some time ago, thinking that mos of the nba related food tv ad are for taco bell/MacDonald kind of junk food.
I'm happy Tony Parker won out of all those guys (except Rondo)
The guy’s underrated and isn’t an overhyped player!
Tony Parker has been a consistent all star on an all star team for most of his career.
The entire team is always underrated but they just keep on quietly winning championships; on eof the reasons they’re likely hated in Stern’s office, since it’s a small market team, and doesn’t generate a big splash in tv ratings. No hoopla, just a solid winner.

Well, that's a relief!
Rondo says the reason he didn’t win isn’t because of his lack of skill as a passer—he says it’s because he choked under pressure.
