Billups Suffers Achilles Injury: May Be Out For A Year

The Clippers have been rolling since picking up Chris Paul and Chauncey Billups to team with their talented young guys. Of course, as fate would have it, they are still the Clippers.

Chauncey Billups Injures Achilles Tendon, May Be Done For Season - SBNation.com

Chauncey Billups suffered an Achilles tendon injury in the fourth quarter of the Los Angeles Clippers' overtime victory over the Orlando Magic on Monday, and according to HoopsWorld's Steve Kyler, several members of the Clippers hinted that Billups may have suffered a tear and was "done." If he did suffer a tear, he could be sidelined for a full calendar year.

Most teams I would assume could overcome this setback and move forward. The Clippers? Well, we'll see.

Star-divide

In other league injury news, Carmelo Anthony suffered an injured groin. Not clear how long he'll be out.

Carmelo Anthony leaves New York Knicks game with a strained groin - ESPN New York

New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony suffered a strained right groin in the first quarter of Monday's 99-88 win against the Utah Jazz and did not return to the court. He will be reevaluated on Tuesday. Anthony appeared to injure his groin after throwing an alley-oop to Tyson Chandler midway through the first quarter.

At least we aren't the only ones that get hurt.

Thanks for the updates, Jeff.

…and it helps that my timezone (7.32pm in my neck of the woods) gives me great timing to catch your first batch of articles.

Geez, this lockout schedule is scary. It’s an injury bug virus. Too bad for the Clips. They’re pretty good to watch over at the Western side o things. But I’m sure Mo Williams will be more than great help in Billups’ absence. As for the Knicks? I’ve always thought that Melo & Amare were great players, but I never believed that their pairing up @ NY would work. One of ’em has to go methinks.

Sad news

Hope it is not career ending for Billups. But at his advanced age (in terms of pro players), it is not easy to recover fully from such a serious injury. He may never get back to where he used to be before the injury.

"Anthony appeared to injure his groin after throwing an alley-oop to Tyson Chandler midway through the first quarter."

.
It was such a strain on him to actually pass the ball. If he had included passing in his game for his entire career, it wouldn’t have been such a shock to the system!!!

Shame

But we shouldn’t have traded him, we made a huge mistake.
But, oh well, the Clippers are Clippers at the end of the day. No matter how flashy they get they’ll still be the crappy, inconsistent team we are used to.

I don't follow rules, I let the rules follow me.

Tough break for Chauncey.

At his age, this might be it for Mr Big Shot. Especially tough getting this type of injury in a contract year. This might be the impetus for the Clips and JR Smith to get together now. Smith is looking for a big stage, and until this injury was contemplating signing with the Knicks.

A starting spot next to Chris Paul in a huge media market on an exciting up and coming team will be too much to pass up for JR Smith.

Wow - tough break is right.

’Just goes to show how injuries can strike any team at any point.

NBA Officiating - Corrupt? Incompetent? Which is worse? Does it matter? It sucks.

That’s “our” 2012 draft pick being affected

by bballee on Feb 7, 2012 9:25 AM EST reply actions

Agree with our improved draft pick but...

I’ve always liked Billips and wanted another #1 in LA…..not the Lakers. Without Billips don’t think they can win the west.

I'm not the Devil's Advocate but I consiider him a close friend

Not that big

IMO – if they could afford to lose a ’marquee" player it would be Billups. They are already top heavy with PGs (Foye, Bledsoe) anyway—- they will miss his experience, but i think any other starter going down would have hurt them far more. They will be fine.

I hated Chauncey Billups

until I saw this. Now I feel like a dick. YOU MADE ME FEEL THIS WAY, CHAUNCEY. I hate him more now. Ugh. That guy is a great player; I hope he comes back strong next year so I can hate him without being all confused.

I don't see why not.

He could still be a good player, might be what he needs.

Too bad about Chauncey Billups - He's had a tremendous career.

It’s unfortunate that injuries like this can happen, and they can happen to anyone and any team. We’ve had more than our share with the Cs over the years.

To a player nearing the end of his career, an injury of this nature is likely a career finisher.

It’s just disheartening that a career can be finished in a matter of a split second.

We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.
