Kupchak fuels Rondo-for-Gasol chatter
Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak may want to play his cards even closer to the vest. To the question, what would he like to address before the trade deadline (March 15th), Kupchak answered: "Well, if there were a way for us to get a 25-year-old, All-Star, ball-handling guard we'd love to do it." ... [There] is exactly one 25-year-old, All-Star, ball-handling guard in the league. Rajon Rondo. Note: "ball-handling guard" is triangle-speak for a point guard. Additionally, sources have told HOOSPWORLD that the Boston Celtics do have interest in Gasol for their All-Star point guard. The Celtics have the potential for sizable cap room this summer but there is no true sense that Dwight Howard or Deron Williams would be within their reach.

there are a lot of very good point guards
but at center its Dwight then a big gap then bynum then a gap then everyone else so if we can get bynum we can replace rondo a lot easier than getting a center as good as bynum (unless Dwight wants to play here)

if this was 3 years ago— maybe. Gasol might make us better short term, but his play versus the combo of Wilcox / JO and KG at center is not so overwhelming that you would trade Rondo IMO. I think trading rondo would be OK— but we would need 2-3 pieces (assuming we could’t get one BIG piece). Example : getting a wing scorer like Ellis- along with maybe an Augustine and/or young centers like Pekovic and Mosgov. Getting young talent to place around the vets without totally rebuilding. These are just names that could be replaced by others (fill in your own talent)- but I don’t like Gasol right now for us
For years...
this organization was in search of a true point guard. Where did that get them? Almost all of the 90’s and early 00’s all I kept hearing was that if this team had a true PG they would be a perennial playoff contender. Now we have one in Rondo and I sure as hell don’t want to trade him at this time. Will Moore be the one to take his place? Maybe in a couple of years.
People want this team to get younger as well and they should. With that in mind would it not best serve the C’s to keep an experienced floor General to run the floor(especially Doc’s system) with the younger, inexperienced players?
Deron Williams is a heck of PG and there are no guarantees the C’s could land him. I say hang on to Rondo and make a strong play for D12 in the off-season.
Yeah and while we’re at it let’s trade Paul Pierce for Greg Oden. Then we can trade Ray Allen and KG for a used pair of sneakers and some thumb tacks. Maybe Latrell Sprewell wants another shot?
Sorry for the angry sarcasm but this is one of the worst trade ideas I have heard in a long time. Why would we trade arguably our best player, the future of our franchise, and one of the best pure point guards in the league for a 31 year old who is owed $19M?
We need to keep Rondo, get younger and rebuild, not fund a retirement home for old llamas.
Danny Ainge needs to come out and squash this rumour, not only for Rondo’s sake but for the sake of this ball club as well.
