Free Agency: With The Deadline Closing In, Minimal Moves Have Been Made

Doc Rivers has recently confirmed the signing of Center Ryan Hollins. Rivers says physicals are scheduled for tomorrow morning and he will dress for the team in Philadelphia. Rivers doesn't know whether he will play or not, but he will dress. Celtics are expected to waive Center Chris Wilcox to make room for Hollins.

Ryan Hollins is an athletic center, as well as a legit 7-footer. Another big body and long arms to clog up the lanes. He will partially fill the void of Jermaine O'neal as someone who comes in and play gritty defense. Hollins can't rebound, but then again, neither could Jermaine.

However, I'm more concerned about the need for yet ANOTHER big to fill the void left by Chris Wilcox. Sure, Hollins' athleticism makes up for Wilcox's athleticism, but Hollins can't rebound like Wilcox can. And that lead me to believe that the Celtics would aggressively pursue another big. One that could rebound. Kyrylo Fesenko looked like a really good option, being that he rebounds nonstop on both ends of the floor and can block shots with ease. It also isn't bad that he is 7'1 and 290 pounds. But, sources say Fesenko has recently signed with the Indiana Pacers for the remainder of the season.

Had Boston signed Fesenko, I think the team would have made a free agency steal. But alas, Danny is in no hurry.

So why isn't Ainge hurrying to sign someone quickly?

I believe Danny doesn't want to rush into things like he did with the Kendrick Perkins trade last year. And at the trade deadline this year. I think he is waiting until the last minute to see if anyone-- absolutely anyone better would be available to sign. However, I don't think there will be another free agent that is going to be available this season.

Nonetheless, I think Danny needs to start making calls to big men free agents immediately. We have one legit center in Greg Stiemsma (who I absolutely have gone nuts over the last few games, getting around 3 or 4 blocks per game recently) and now the addition of Ryan Hollins. But that still leaves us with one, slightly talented, young center. Hollins is young, but he is FAR from talented. Yes, I know, a center that is not very talented is better than no center at all, but just barely better. I still think Danny should sign one more big man.

What do you guys think?
