Rumor: Josh Smith Demands Trade From Atlanta Hawks

Stay connected for news and updates

That must be his tribute to Gerald Green.

Dwight Howard's request to be traded is old news now (though that won't stop the breathless updates from coming from everyone ...ok, myself included). Now you can add Josh Smith to the mix.

Atlanta Hawks: Josh Smith still wants to be traded | Atlanta Hawks

Even as Josh Smith is having a strong season for the Hawks he has let the team know he wants to be traded as the March 15 deadline approaches, according to people with knowledge of Smith’s thinking. And the reasons for Smith’s dissatisfaction with the team now have to make the Hawks wonder if they will be able to sign him to a contract extension next season.

As the trade deadline approaches, the Hawks have taken calls from teams interested in acquiring Smith-Golden State is among the teams who have inquired. But the Hawks so far have given no indication that they intend to part with Smith, who likely would command a high price in a trade.

There were some rumblings earlier in the week that the Celtics made inquiries about Smith. No surprises there, I'm sure Danny has called every team and at least asked about anyone remotely available. The Chad Ford idea of dealing Rondo for Smith was covered on this blog earlier today. Other than that, I just think it is interesting that Smith is still asking out after having such a solid, near-All Star worthy first half.
