Garnett was killer in 5 spot this season, but if his return to the Celtics hinges on going back to his natural position at power forward, Danny Ainge is going to have to find a defensive-minded center to replace Kendrick Perkins Rasheed Wallace Shaquille O'Neal Nenad Krstic Jermaine O'Neal Kevin Garnett. News out of the Windy City is that Omer Asik could be that man:

Celtics could pursue Bulls’ Asik

The Celtics are one the teams said to be considering a strong offer to Bulls center Asik. The thinking is it might help them retain Kevin Garnett, who though playing very well at center the second half of the season doesn't want to return as a center.

Asik is one of the best rim-protecting centers in the league and a restricted free agent for the Bulls. Someone will try and max him out at $5 million a year and Chicago might even match anything for the almost 27-year-old seven footer. With Greg Stiemsma's return in the balance, could Asik be a redundant signing? Like any rumor from now until the draft on June 28th and free agency starting on July 1st, it's just a rumor until we know what KG is doing this fall.
