Heat Are NBA Champions - So That Happened

MIAMI, FL - JUNE 21: LeBron James #6 of the Miami Heat answers questions from the media next to the Larry O'Brien Finals Championship trophy and James' Bill Russell Finals MVP trophy during his post game press conference after they won 121-106 against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game Five of the 2012 NBA Finals on June 21, 2012 at American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida. I guess this is where I have to put up my "LeBron James gets my begrudged respect" post. Though I'm not really in much of a mood for it. In fact, I didn't really even watch much of the finals. For all the support I wanted to give the Thunder, it really never got me going. Between the disappointment of the end of our run and the startup of the offseason, I just never got invested in the Finals.

So now LeBron James and the Miami Heat have won a Championship. So they join Kobe and the Lakers in the land of Champs that I dislike. Oh well, that's life. It happens. I'm sure LeBron is a really sweet guy once you get to know him and blah blah blah. Whatever.

Pretty sad for Durant, though i know he'll be back next year and the year after that and so on. Maybe he'll even have a little cross country rivalry with James - but they'll never be Bird/Magic. I'm more sorry for Kendrick Perkins, who reportedly played the last three rounds of the playoffs on a partially torn groin. Ouch. Not sure if that's an analogy for anything or just proof that the guy is tough.

So there's your obligatory post to react to the Finals result. Enjoy. On with the offseason.
