Ray Allen is a big part of the puzzle for this season. Letting him go would be a mistake, especially because there is no one out there that gives us a similar contribution. Ray has to be back, and he will.
With the Clippers now out of the mix because of the acquistions of Crawford and Billups, apparently Ray's decision lies betwwen the Heat or the Celtics. You can maybe even throw teams like Minnesota, Memphis and Chicago in the mix because of their need for a shooting guard, but those teams havent really been mentioned like Miami and Boston.
Frankly, I dont see one reason that would make Ray prefer Miami over Boston. First, financially, Boston can offer twice what the Heat can offer, TWICE. Going from 10M to 6m is digestable but from 10M to 3M that must hurt a biit more. Second, familiarity. Ray reportedly loves the city of Boston. His family lives there, and Boston is the city in which his son with diabetes can be treated. From a family point of view it doesnt make sense either. Then comes famliarity with the system. Miami and Boston, though sometimes similar, aren't close to being the same. Miami relies on ISOs much more than Boston does. The Celtics are about team, and Doc knows how to use every part of the team. Ray will have his 6th man role here, even with the addition of Terry. Changing systems, particularly when he is so familiar with it (5 years) is tough for an NBA player. he would need to find a role.
Finally, and the most powerful argument for me are his teammates. The only possible reason Ray can choose Miami is beacuse he is chasing another ring. But why would Ray go to a team where the ring would be won by LeBron and Wade, and just gifted to him? Why not battle with Garnett and Pierce instead to take that ring away from the team that everyone believes will win it all again? That makes sense, go to a battle, earn the ring (like LeBron did this year). Ray would earn that ring battling with Pierce, Garnett, and Rondo. Demonstrate that they still have it. There is no way I can see Ray along the clown of Wade, Chalmers and Bosh. Those are not the guys you go to battle with. You go to battle with THE TRUTH, KEVIN M***CKING GARNETT AND RONDO.
Thats what Ray should do, and thats what hopefully he will decide.
Welcome back Ray "Jesus" Allen
