Red Auerbach pioneered the way basketball is played today. He preached fundamentals, sharing the ball on offense, and team defense. Fifty years later, Rajon Rondo is revolutionizing the sport just like his predecessor.

You could point out that his hair is on fire and the most you would get is an annoyed scrunching of the face. He could win his second NBA championship this summer and it would appear as if he was walking through the park instead of through confetti and hysteria. You don't really know the depths of his emotions, but you know what they say about still waters.

Rajon Rondo has come a long way since 2007. He's poised to continue moving forward in 2012, a year of new faces, new chances and new beginnings for the Boston Celtics.

Danny Ainge himself, on 2 different interviews, made the statement that Rajon Rondo is our best player. That is an amazing progression for the guy that was at best the 4th best player on the Celtics when they won their title in 2008.

Kevin Garnett's new deal will help make the Boston Celtics title contenders for the next three years, but his legacy with the team will last much longer.
8 months ago Article 15 comments
Everything changed in Boston on that Summer day in 2007 when Kevin Garnett was traded. The Celtics didn't just go from being bad to being good overnight. They went from being NBA players to becoming a team.

Somehow Paul Pierce made it to the top of the mountain as a Boston Celtic as the captain and go-to- guy. Don’t let anybody tell you that it was only because of the additions of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. Yes, Pierce finally had a good team around him, but he carried them through the 2008 playoffs.

As Paul Pierce's career comes to a close, the 34-year-old has a chance to cement his legacy as the all-time leading scorer in Celtics' history. He's got two years left on his current contract and a lot left in the tank. There's no question that #34 will be raised to rafters, but there might be a sliver of doubt that he retires in Celtic green.

This article was originally run on Aug. 25, 2011 but it seemed like something that could be re-run on Paul Pierce Day. It describes how I feel like I grew up with Paul Pierce on a distant parallel path.

Celtics fans have flirted with the idea of acquiring for Josh Smith, but that could mean including Brandon Bass in a trade.
8 months ago Article 18 comments
Perhaps it is just me, but I don't think Bass is ever going to be able to separate himself from comparisons to Big Baby. On the other hand, I'm not sure he'd want to, since the comparisons have been overwhelmingly positive lately.

Jackie Mac has some sobering news on Avery Bradley Day. According to Doc, Avery probably won't be ready until late December and maybe even January after double shoulder this summer.

It's not easy being Green. First, he's traded for fan favorite Kendrick Perkins. Second, he misses an entire season due to heart surgery. And third, he signs a four-year deal that almost mirrors in money and years the Celtics' best player in Rajon Rondo. He'll be the most scrutinized player on the team next season in a no win situation.

Jeff Green has never been the focal point of a team during his time in the NBA. He hasn't asked for that kind of role, and frankly, he hasn't needed it. Instead, Green has been happy to master a number of skills and take a backseat approach to his time in the NBA.

So for some of us, it took a life threatening situation to appreciate Jeff Green's life. Basketball? Who cares about basketball? This is a man's life we're talking about.

I don't think it's even possible to sleep on Chris Wilcox, Jeff. He won't let you. This guy is a freak. I don't think you're going to be able to sleep through an alley-oop dunk on the break with 17,000 fans in TD Garden on their feet.

But wait, there's another big man on the team that very likely has more talent than any of those other 3. Chris Wilcox is probably the best scorer of that bunch and absolutely has the best athleticism, in particular running the floor.

I'm going to do my best Mike Zarren impression here. These are the post-season numbers of the big men that played with Garnett. Disregard 2008-2009 when KG sat out with injury.

Enter Darko Milicic - the poster boy for wasted potential. He was picked way too high for his talent and never developed the way he could or perhaps should have, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have value.
