I was really moved by the reception Doc got last night and I will always be grateful for what he gave to this team. At the same time, I keep wondering whether we might actually be in a better position without him this year.
I keep coming back to two questions:
1) If his heart was not in it, would we really want Doc on our bench in this rebuilding year?
2) Would Doc be a more successful coach than Stevens with this squad as currently constituted?
My answer to both of these questions has become an increasingly strong "no." I think it's far better to have a skilled younger guy like Stevens who has something to prove.
I'm really growing to love this edition of the team, but one thing that the games against the Clippers and Nets have demonstrated is that we've got zero talent of the Pierce/KG/D-Will/Joe Johnson/CP/Blake variety. Not even close.
And yet these guys are fighting and scrapping and staying in the games. On paper, there's no way this should be happening. A lot of the credit goes to Stevens.
Any thoughts? Are we better off with Doc?
