Following the "wheel" article which sounded quite bad to me, I just wanted to write about how I want the draft to look like. Every year, we question teams about tanking and about the benefit of finishing in the lottery or as an 8th seed. It's quite simple, here we go...
1) All non playoff teams will participate in the lottery with the same odds (the worst team and the 9th team in the east will get the same chance).
2) The fourteen first picks will be decided by the lottery (instead of the first three picks right now), then by records.
3) The second round of the draft will be in favour of playoff teams. The 8th seeds in each conference will pick first, then the 7th... The non playoff teams will then be picked up by the worst records. (If a team finishes 8th in the league, they would get the 15th and 31st pick in the draft).
4) Less important but still, all players would have to go through the draft to play in the nba, Vitor Faverani for example. Undrafted players (like Phil Pressey) could only be signed through a D-League team. The 14th and 15th spot on NBA rosters would be allocated for D-league affiliated teams players with no restrictions on how long and how often the player can be assigned to. At some stage at the end of the season, NBA teams could extend offers to other teams NBADL players, with the current team being able to match offers (such as for restricted free agents).
Let me know what you guys think about this. And sorry in advance for any probable mistakes in the article, English is not my first language and this was my first post. Cheers!
