Celtics may be interested in Jonny Flynn

Danny Ainge is looking high and low for talented players.

I haven't read anywhere directly saying that the Celtics are interested in Jonny Flynn, but it is clear from Danny's comments below that he's looking at overseas options. Putting two and two together...

Ainge, Celts put on guard | Boston Herald

We have players we like in the D-League, and we have a little more than a week before the trade deadline. And we’ll explore all of that. "Immediately we will probably bring someone in on a 10-day contract, and we’re going through all those names. There’s a lot of names actually, but it’s going to be very difficult to replace Leandro Barbosa." "Immediately" will likely mean the end of the All-Star break that starts tomorrow, and in terms of free agents, the Celtics are looking beyond the D-League and the U.S. border. "There are guys playing all around the world, and I need to figure out when they may become available with their contracts," said Ainge. "So there’s a lot to go through here."

He also says that he wants guys that can be an impact the way Barbosa could be at times. There are tons of guys that can play in the NBA. Few of them have the upside talent to be "impact" guys. One guy that immediately comes to mind is Jonny Flynn.

Jonny Flynn: After a disappointing NBA career, the No. 6 overall pick in 2009 now plays for the Melbourne Tigers in the Australian National Basketball League. His contract reportedly includes a clause that allows him to return stateside should an NBA team come calling. Flynn's averages of 5.2 points and 3.8 assists in 29 games for the Rockets and Blazers last season have translated into 16.8 points and 6.0 assists in the mediocre NBL.

Flynn's NBA Stock On The Rise Again Thanks To All-Star Season In Australia - Ridiculous Upside

In his 12 games played, Flynn is averaging 17.3 points, 6.3 assists, 4.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 34% from 3-point and 41% from the field. Couple that with Flynn's All-Star appearance -- 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 10 assists in the South's 134-114 win over the North All-Stars in December -- and the decision to reclaim his game on an international level has worked in Flynn's favor thus far. We are talking about a guy who went from starting 81 games his rookie season in Minnesota to being a toss-in forgotten commodity around the league in a very short period of time.

Clearly Ainge is willing to look high and low to find anyone that can be of some help and Flynn could come in and help right away. Hopefully his agent can work out the out clause and get him back to the NBA.
