Danny Ainge - USA Today
Your one stop place to discuss trade rumors all day long.
Here's the plan for today. We'll keep this thread at or near the top of the page to catch all your comments leading up to today's deadline of 3:00 PM EST. We'll also post any significant trade rumors, breaking news, and analysis into this trade deadline storystream. You can also follow us on twitter @celticsblog for all the latest as it happens.
From a certain perspective, it seems odd that the Celtics are in so many trade rumors and discussions. I can't really imagine other teams giving up what I'd want to get in return for Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, or Rajon Rondo. I also can't really see what other teams would give us for Brandon Bass, Jeff Green, Jason Terry, or Courtney Lee that would both be an upgrade and not leave us ultra thin at one position or another.
Yet Danny Ainge is nothing if not persistent and hard working. He's basically been playing both sides of the fence. On one side, he's gauging what he could get if he traded Pierce and Garnett and started to rebuild. He's also always open to being bowled over by offers for Rajon Rondo (though it would take a lot to make that happen). On the other side, he's still looking for ways to add support players around the current cast in order to make another run in the playoffs.
It sounds as of this morning that all that chatter has died down to a trickle. Teams know what he's looking for and everything is stalled right now. Everyone expects Josh Smith to be dealt and that would appear to be a move that a lot of teams are waiting to see happen before making their next move. The Celtics appear to be waiting on the Los Angeles Clippers to make up their mind on a Kevin Garnett trade proposal before bringing it to Kevin himself for sign-off approval. So while everything appears quiet for now, a lot could happen between now and 3:00 PM.
So (as if I have to tell you) stay tuned and check back early and often.
