I Am A Celtic...and too many people forget why we struggled so long to get back to where we are

The divergent opinions and reactions to the trade dreadline has finally pushed me to stop lurking. I breathed a deep sigh of relief when 3 pm on February 21 came and went with a whimper. KG will still bleed green and The Truth is still here. Let's hope they ride off into the sunset together, because the franchise is in a better place now than it was.

And then there's this--Josh Smith will still be a free agent when Summer arrives. But I digress. My point?

Stop forgetting what makes the Celtics a great franchise. The minute you start trading away your Heart, the main cogs who restored Celtic Pride and brought Ubuntu, the less likely we are to find our next Cornerstone. DeAndre Jordan and Eric Bledsoe? No thank you.

There is not going to be another KG for a long time. He has always bled Celtic Green...he just didn't have the opportunity to wear the uniform until 2008. I mean, really, what kind of guy would stay in Minnesota, with that franchise, for so long? (True he was well compensated but, come on, he would have got it anywhere.) Someone made from the same cloth as a Bill Russell, that is who. It took a Celtic (thank you, Mr. McHale) to help KG find his way home. KG has instilled Russell's influence back into this franchise. And it will endure as long as we don't do something stupid (see Clipper trade above). KG leaves on his terms, and so does The Truth. PERIOD.

The fear of returning to the mid-90s and irrelevance? Overblown.

Don't forget that Larry's Celtics were meant to be handed off to the next Cornerstone, arguably the second best 2 guard at the time (and my childhood favorite, Reggie). The only one doing it better at the time? That guy in Chi-Town. Remember? Larry retired in1992 and Reggie, in his 6th year in 1993, made his first ASG, only to be lost that Summer. RIP, Reg.

I love our team, including Rondo. The guys buy into the Celtic Way, as instilled by KG and The Truth. We should not trade Rondo. I repeat, we should not trade Rondo. Any guy who comes back to gut it out WITH ONE ARM is fine by me. I hate the Heat and so does he. That's the way we like our Celtics. Mr. Rondo, you are made from that cloth, the same one as Mr. Russell and Mr. Garnett. Remember Rondo trash talking Chris Paul out of his game a few years back...taunting him with his championship ring? Rondo is the next Cornerstone. The problem? He needs to find Batman. Rondo can lead this team. But this is the NBA, we need the other Cornerstone, the Scorer of the future. Could that be J Smoove? Could we possibly find a way to bring him into the fold for a last run with our current Heart? I don't know, but let's enjoy our Celtics now and wait til the Summer to find out.
