Signs that the Celtics may be giving up on 2012-13?

We fans wanna keep fighting. So long as KG is healthy and our guys are all ready for the fight, we like to believe they can still contend.... where "contend" is defined as "it's still possible to win the championship THIS YEAR." But does the front office still think so? Or have they given up on this season and planning now only for the future? Some clues have appeared recently that point to the latter scenario:

(1) Sully went under the knife in RECORD TIME. We had no sooner heard that he was injured when word came down that he had ALREADY had his surgery. That was surprising. What does it mean? The man walked off the court, so it was probably not a totally debilitating injury he suffered. A decision was made. With apparently NO time given for thinking it over, getting multiple opinions, reconsidering whether he could make it to the summer... nothing. Who does that? Well... a team that's only interested in the future does that. A GM who's given up on this season and wants to build for next season ASAP, would do that.

(2) They're dropping stories to the media about cutting costs now. (See http://www.celticsblog.com/2013/2/2/3944692/celtics-may-look-to-make-money-saving-trade ) It smells like they may be prepping us fans for a trade that won't make basketball sense, just $$ sense. A trade we won't like. Who does that? Teams looking to clear space for future moves, moves for next year and beyond.... that's who.

(3) Greg Oden came to town. Wth?? Who looks at Greg Oden, who can't even start playing till next year (at best)? (I think you gotta be out of your mind to even consider that walking Final Destination movie as an actual player of basketball, but that's beside this point.) Ok, they could be planning for next year and NOT have given up on this one.... but still, it's one more log on the fire.

One can argue: "Why wouldn't they just come out and say it, if they've given up on this year?" Short answer = $$$. They don't want us giving up now... think of the attendance hit they'd suffer. So yeah, I think they'd string us along.... keep our hopes up even as they've already lost theirs.

Think they're incapable of doing that? Hmmm... ok......... Say, I've got this bridge I'd like to show you, in Brooklyn..... Make ya a good deal too. Promise.

Of course.... I don't actually KNOW nuttin. Just sayin'.... it's starting to look suspicious. Just saying: let's keep our eyes and ears open.
