Josh Smith and the Hawks made it interesting, but the Celtics prevailed in overtime to win their 5th straight.
Leading by 10 in the 4th quarter, the Celtics let the Hawks tie up the game and send it to overtime. But some big, clutch shots by JET and Jeff Green helped seal the deal in the extra period.

The Hawks scored the first four points of overtime before the Celtics responded. Green’s baseline three hit the front of the rim, bounced straight up in the air and rattled home with 2:34 left in overtime, putting Boston back up, 99-98. With the shot clock about to expire, Smith drained a three with 2:14 left to put Atlanta back up, 101-99. Pierce connected for a three with 1:37 left to put the Celtics back up, 102-101. Smith connected on 1-of-2 free throws with 1:20 left to tie the game, 102-102. Terry drilled a straightaway three with 35 seconds left to put the Celtics up, 105-102.

The Celtics (34-27) have now won five straight to move seven games over .500. What's more, they've moved into a tie with Atlanta for the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. Boston is now 7-4 in overtime games this season. The Celtics get Saturday off before heading back out on a brief two-game road trip that includes Sunday's national TV battle in Oklahoma City before concluding in Charlotte on Tuesday. A little three-game homestand (vs. Toronto, Charlotte, and Miami) awaits after that.
