Terrence Williams to have "minor surgery"

Although his legal issues continue in Washington, Terrence Williams is back in Boston to check in with the team and tweeted earlier today that he's receiving treatment and having a "minor" procedure done. He dealt with a broken finger towards the end of the season, but it hasn't been confirmed that that's what the surgery is for. Reading between the lines here, but the fact that he and the team have been in constant communication this off season despite his legal troubles could bode well for his future with the franchise.

Charges against Terrence Williams delayed

Prosecutors need more time to review case against NBA’s Terrence Williams | NBA in Seattle | Seattle Times

King County prosecutors said they need more time to review the allegations against NBA player Terrence Williams, who was arrested Sunday after the mother of his 10-year-old son told police he had flashed a handgun at her. "There’s an ongoing investigation and a charging decision will be made at a later date," Dan Donohoe, a spokesman for the prosecuting attorney’s office, said today.

If ultimately charged and convicted of second-degree domestic assault with a firearm, Lustick said, Williams could face close to four years in jail. A second-degree domestic assault charge, which is a Class B felony, normally carries a sentence of 6-9 months, but the same charge with a firearm can add up to an additional three years. It’s also possible for Williams to face lesser charges, or none at all.

Terrence Williams future with Celtics in doubt

Nothing official has been said either way, but the news and the team's prior history don't bode well for Terrence Williams.

Williams up on charges | Boston Herald

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge declined comment yesterday. The Celtics, as always in these situations, are also investigating what took place. Ainge did say that he hadn’t talked to Williams since being informed of the arrest. The incident casts an uncertain light on Williams’ future with the C’s. He has a $947,907 contract for next season that will be guaranteed only if he makes the team in training camp.

Williams has one more year left on his contract, but it's not guaranteed. If these allegations are found to be true, don't be surprised if this incident hurts, and maybe ends, his chances of remaining with the team. When Sebastian Telfair was arrested on a gun possession charge during his time with Boston, the team removed Telfair's nameplate from his locker. Managing partner Wyc Grousbeck wrote an email to the Boston Globe at the time, writing in part: "The facts and circumstances of his case have not been determined but (Telfair) does not have a Celtics locker and we do not anticipate that he will."

Williams is set to earn $947,907 next season. If not waived on or before June 30, $200,000 of his contract becomes guaranteed. If not waived on or before Sept. 1, $300,000 becomes guaranteed. And Williams' contract becomes fully guaranteed if he's not waived on or before Oct. 31 (meaning he'd have to make the opening-day roster).
