A. Sherrod Blakely on Doc: Doc wary of "full-blown rebuilding process"

USA TODAY Sports

CSNNE's Blakely is reporting that Doc Rivers "uncertainty" stems from "the type of team" Danny assembles this summer.

Doc, I'm wary, too. Here's the damning quote from A. Sherrod's source:

Source: Rivers wary of full-blown re-build

"No coach wants to go through a full-blown rebuilding process," said the source. "Doc's already done that, so he knows how tough that is for all involved. But to be asked to go through it twice? Any coach would pause for a minute before signing on to that."

Does that mean a trade involving Rajon Rondo, presumably the future face of the franchise?

Does that mean Paul Pierce, Doc's loyal and trusted captain since he's been in Boston, not in Celtic green next season?

Does that mean Rivers won't be able to rely on Kevin Garnett's mentorship at Waltham and on the parquet?

It's all speculation at this point, but if we're going to take Doc at his words, he mentioned two years ago that he'd be willing to take part in a rebuilding process. And as far as we can tell today, he's been actively doing that by attending pre-draft workouts and talking to Danny about free agency. Those are not the actions of a man in doubt. Could the lack of a public announcement be a power play to bring back his veteran core? Maybe, but I'd imagine that Doc and Danny don't play games like that through the press.

My gut tells me that Doc is coming back and a lot of that comes from my confidence in Danny Ainge's confidence that he's coming back. With the coaching carousel spinning out of control this summer, you would have to think that Danny would be active in a coaching search if Doc was even remotely considering cutting his five year extension with the team short. We haven't heard word one about Danny reaching out to anybody.

Rondo sat down with Sal Masekela and Brian Kamenetzky for Red Bull and talked about his growing relationship with the only coach he's ever had in the NBA. At the end of the piece, Rondo explicitly says, "I wouldn't rather play for any other coach."

P.S. I really want to see Courtney Lee's impression of Doc. YouTube, get on this.
