We all know it, but for some reason lots choose to avoid talking about it or develop a case of amnesia after screaming about it after a loss followed by a win... WE NEED A QUALITY BIG. Rebounding and D in the paint has been a consistent problem the last few years. When our outside shooting isn't falling, we lose. We need a legitimate consistent inside presence. I'm not convinced that drafting a big that will have an immediate impact is realistically possible.
That said, while a lot of "fans" seem to suggest we MUST blow up the team to begin a legitimate championship run - I still think we have the tiniest sliver of a chance, running (most) everyone back, with the caveat being we can't have multiple injuries hit us like they have the last 2 seasons AND we probably have to luck out that other teams do catch the injury bug (which has happened).
I'd rather commit to the smallest of chances than no chance at all by blowing things up.
It's time to make an obvious and realistic trade. Bring in Gortat, he can be had and he's the "solid" big man we need and can realistically expect with the assets we have to trade.
Some trades that work in the trade machine:
BOS gets GORTAT
PHO gets TERRY, BRADLEY, MELO
Why PHO would say yes - Terry comes home (star at AZ, good marketing), Bradley is a talent, Melo is 7 ftr.
*Personally, I don't want to lose Bradley, but sometimes you've got to give good to get good
BOS gets GORTAT
PHO gets TERRY, MELO and #16 pick
Why PHO would say yes - Terry comes home (star at AZ, good marketing), Melo is 7 ftr, and they keep building with pick
And there are countless other trades that seem to work involving Terry and some sort of combo for Gorat alone or packaged.
I don't think we have to rebuild, we just need to be honest of our needs in legitimately improving this team.
Personally, I'll admit my sentimentality might bias my opinion in terms of running the team back with Paul and KG vs. blowing it all up - but other than financial savings, does cutting bait with those guys signal a commitment to winning or rather a long slog through mediocrity? Pierce and KG can still play with this team, they just need more help that is less window dressing and more REAL.
